Up

I'm one of those adults who still likes cartoons. When Ren and Stimpy came out, my son and I laughed our butts off every Sunday morning (The Tooth Fairy and Rubber Nipple Salesman are two of my favs) and just thinking of Dangermouse makes me want to say, "Penfold, Hush!" So you can imagine how happy I am that animated films these days are made so the whole family can enjoy. Among my favorites: Monsters, Inc. Toy Story, Nemo, The Incredibles, and everything Hayao Miyazaki has done (My Neighbor Totoro is probably my favorite but I haven't seen Ponyo yet - it's in my queue).  Last weekend I watched Up, and while it might not be their best, the great thing about Pixar is they don't make bad films and Up was both sweet and endearing. I loved Carl (the old man) and how much he loved his wife. I loved Russel, the sad chubby boy who tries so hard. And how could you not love Doug the dog? Can you say squirrel?
