Wagon Wheel

My mc, Kass, stayed here last night while in Cuba, MO.

I'm actually not sure if the motel exists any longer but that's one of the nice things about writing fiction. We get to make stuff up, take poetic license. On the other hand, this place (the library in Cuba. Missouri),

definitely exists and Kass will be stopping here to try find some information about a particular family member. By tomorrow night she and David should be in Cincinnati. Well, I say should be, but like a good author, I'll be delaying them. After all, we can't hurry this journey along too quickly now can we?

Oh, and if you thought I meant this Wagon Wheel, I'm glad I didn't disappoint :) Happy Friday!

    1. Nope, The Wagon Wheel Motel (which does exist!)is actually in Cuba, MO, which is known for its many murals - I'm learning a lot about these places my characters are visiting as you can see :)

  3. Your character is staying in a lot of kitschy old hotels. I think you're having too much fun with this. :))

    1. The library has been very helpful to my mc - this is the third one she's visited! But I think it's also the last.

  6. You're having entirely too much fun. It's really neat to be able to incorporate actual places into your work, but I'm beginning to think calling it a WIP may be misleading. Work? How about Happiness ... then you can call it a HIP.

  7. work and play at the same time!
The sign is interesting. The name of the place is the "Wagon Wheel Motel," but the wheel, isn't a wagon wheel. It's a steering from a ship! LOL!

  8. I live in Cuba, Missouri where the Wagon Wheel Motel is located on Route 66. The website is www.wagonwheel66cuba.com. It is on Facebook as Historic Wagon Wheel Motel featuring Connie's Shoppe. The Wagon Wheel has been a Route 66 motel since the 1930s. He got a new owner in 2009 and has been nicely redone. The spokes you see from the Wagon Wheel is part of the neon on the sign. There are 100s of photos on the Facebook Page. The new owner likes that song.

To learn a little about the Cuba, Missouri "Route 66 Missouri City" visit www.cubamomurals.com. We are on Facebook as Cuba MO Murals.

Here's a tip: There is a History Museum across the street from the library where they do genealogy: www.crawfordmomuseum.com. You might want to call ahead & check the hours.

    1. Thanks Jane! I did a little more research and found out some of what you said along with some nice pics of the motel after it's makeover. I only wish I could make the actual trip like my main character does. Thanks again for stopping by :)
