Yavin

 Yavin-4.jpg

Yavin is a fictional planet and its satellite system in the Star Wars Universe. Yavin is famous for the battle over the moon, Yavin 4, depicted in Episode IV: A New Hope. That's the one the Death Star was about to destroy when Han returned in the nick of time and Luke used the force to destroy the Death Star and save the day.

I still remember seeing that movie in the theatre when it came out and my overwhelming sense of awe at that opening seen. Do you?

  1. Yes I do! I was a teenager and I remember the line snaking around the side of the building.

  2. I never saw that one in the theater. In fact, I think the first Star Wars movie I saw in theaters was Episode III.

  3. it's a good day when the force is strong enough in you to be able to destroy an evil Death Star :)

  4. I can't say I was a Star Wars fan. I like the first movie and liked the movie where it shows how Darth Vadar became who he became.

    1. Yes, that was interesting to see how Darth became Darth, but I didn't care much for those movies overall, mostly due to Hayden Christopher's poor acting an d, of course, the horrifically awful Jar Jar character.

  6. I remember going, too. I think I was 10 when it came out and I wasn't particularly impressed. I just didn't have a sci-fi background. I mean I liked Star Trek, but I think that's because I had a sense of all the relationships so I sort of forgave that it happened in space... or something. Star Wars had to grow on me... in fact it really didn't until I was an adult.

    1. Yeah, if I'd been 10, I'm not sure if I would've liked it as much.

  8. There's been some Yavin episodes in the Clone Wars. One had bounty hunters chasing after younglings.

  10. Never heard of it. I'm ashamed to admit in this company of sci-fi fans that I only ever watched the first two movies of the original Star Wars trilogy. :(

    1. I must confess, I didn't remember Yavin - my brother gave it to me for the challenge. But good god how could you not watch Return of the Jedi after seeing what happened to Han?! That's just wrong!

  11. I don't remember seeing the first Star Wars in the theater. I'm told I did. And that I liked it. That was how my parents dragged me to the Empire Strikes Back. Kicking and screaming.

Return of the Jedi, however, I was excited to see. Even though the theater was so packed we had to all split up. And my dad had gone earlier in the day (it was a school day).

    1. My (ex) husband and I got the last two seats at Return of the Jedi. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it way more than he did.

  14. Yes, I remember watching that movie for the first time. I was in junior high. We waited in line for 4 hours to see it, and it was still mind-blowing.

    1. I think I only saw it once at the movies originally, then again when they brought it back in anticipation of episode I - but I've seen it countless times on vhs and dvd. I practically have it memorized!

  17. We had small kids so we saw it at the drive in. A bunch of times. Having the dark sky and stars overhead made it even cooler.

  18. I wasnt old enough to see the first one in the theatre. But I remember seeing Empire STrikes Back and was in awe of course. I've seen New Hope a hundred times but dont remember Yavin. I'll have to listen closer next time. ;)
