The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (again)

The Good: I finally saw Star Wars Episode VII, and it was good, and there was no Jar Jar :)

The Bad: My Volvo is NOT as good in the snow as my Rav4. Not that I didn't know that. But. I got stuck in my drive and had to call a tow truck :(

The Ugly: Since it was Sunday, it cost $85!!!

But let's talk about the Good...

I was so happy not to see Jar Jar, and seeing everyone else was like seeing old friends after a long time. I loved the new characters, including the new droid, and the tie ins with the previous episodes. I have one question. Who is Rey? Specifically, what's her parentage? This was what we (me, my son, and two of my brothers) talked about most on the way home. I won't get into specifics here because I don't want to reveal any spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it (like some people did for one of my brothers and my son. Wankers.) but it sure makes me wish Episode VIII was coming sooner! Abrams did a great job, imo.

  1. That's how I felt about the movie. Although I never really hated Jar-Jar, but I did strongly dislike everything Lucas did with those last three films.
Sorry about your car getting stuck!

    1. Yeah, Lucas kinda blew it, not to mention some of the casting choices.

  2. Glad you liked it so much. I may wait for it to come out on Netflix. So sorry about your car.

  3. I think Rey is Luke's daughter.

    1. I read a pretty good argument for her being Obi Wan's granddaughter from a secret relationship. Explains why the force is so strong with her. And the Brit accent too. :)

    2. Except Obi Wan was already dead when she was born.

    3. oh, wait, you said granddaughter. Hmm...that's a possibility!

  4. My significant other and I talked a lot about Rey on our way home from seeing the movie, too. I have a theory—well, part of a theory. I thought J.J. did a great job as well because he actually made me like a Star Wars movie.

We had a camry that got stuck in the garage for months one winter because of the snow and ice that froze in front of it. It wasn't that high of a frozen ridge, but the camry couldn't get over it. We shared a car until spring—and were fortunately in a position to do so.

    1. I loved the first three, mostly disliked the second three, which I wouldn't even have in my collection. I just can't watch Jar Jar again.

  5. I had a RAV4 when I first got married. It was a great little car and fantastic in the snow.

I really enjoyed Star Wars -- and had the same thoughts as you -- but I recently re-watched The Martian on Blue-Ray, and I have to say: I don't care what they made at the box office. The Martian is the better movie.

  6. It's been so long since I haven't had four-wheel drive, I'm not sure I could drive in the snow without it.

  7. Still haven't seen it...and feel I'm really missing the pop culture loop. I'll get there eventually, I'm sure. Sorry about the car...

  8. I haven't seen it. And why, oh why do we ALWAYS have to call the repair people on a Sunday? Or a public holiday.

  9. Oh so sad, stuck in your own driveway. Good news: hot chocolate was free, lol. I liked the new Star Wars too, lots of fun to watch. Yep, looking forward to having some questions answered in the next Episode.

  10. Why can't Rey just be some random girl who is strong in the Force? Vader came from nowhere, after all. But there are all sorts of articles on the internets about Rey and her possible backstory, so I think I'm in the minority on this one.

Sorry you got stuck in the snow. That sucks.

    1. I tried to go sooner but the seats were sold out! Then I had to try to avoid all the spoilers that were floating around, which I somehow managed to do.

  14. And that is the question. I felt like I was reading one of those annoying series where they just leave the whole story hanging at the end so you'll buy the next one... Only the next one doesn't come out until 2017. Ugh.

    1. well, we knew this was just the first...but yeah, 2017 is a long time to wait!

  15. I STILL have not seen the movie! I am going to make it my mission to go see it this weekend. Thanks for the incentive, lol

  16. I'm one of the few that hasn't seen it yet and I'm unlikely to any time soon. :( It will still be just as good on DVD, right?!

  17. Smarticus and I went to see the new Star Wars flick last wee. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and I agree with you about liking the new characters. Can't wait until the next episode!

The movie's a bit longer than we usually prefer, but the theater we attended made the length a non-factor. Would you believe plush reclining seats??? Reasonable prices, too! Six bucks apiece... only five bucks on Tuesdays. Something tells me we'll be going to the movies a lot more frequently... if that theater stays open. Both times we've gone, we practically had the place to ourselves.

  18. Ugh! SO sorry you got stuck in your driveway. I guess it was good you were in your home when it happened? Seems a lot of people are getting stuck out and about right now with all this snow.

  19. The advantage of having neighbors in our circle is they often stop and give me a push when I get stuck in the long driveway....:)

  20. I'm afraid I'm not connected to the STAR WARS world as most people seem to be :) I kinda feel lost, because I wasn't raised on the original trilogy like most other people :(
