A Maine lobster bake

As you may remember class, we were talking about a lobster bake...

an old oil tank cut in half

This is what bakes the lobsters, and everything else. The one pictured is not my brother's but it looks quite similar. The locale is a bit different however...lol. My brother set his up at the edge of his lawn on cinder blocks. The seaweed goes in first, followed by the lobster, potato (wrapped in foil), corn, onions (I think they get wrapped, too), clams, and eggs on top. Top it off with seaweed, light the fire and in about 40 minutes everything will be ready.

There were maybe 30+/- people there, lots of kids, perfect weather, no mosquitoes, and a sunset that was unbelievable. I would have a picture of it (and a bunch of other stuff) if I had remembered to bring my camera (duh!).

This weekend I'm going to see Elysium with my other brother and son AND I may have come up with a new title for my novel which is still going by it's working title. My editor wants to sleep on it but she sounded hopeful and so am I. My book needs an official title!

So. What's new with you? Doing anything this weekend? Enjoying the summer? Reading a good book? Do tell...

how to make a really good sandwich

Take some nice, sweet brown bread, you know, the kind that comes in a fat loaf in the bakery section at your local supermarket (molasses should be one of the top ingredients). Slice and toast lightly. Get some extra sharp, good  quality cheddar and cut into long thin wedges. Use mayo (I like Hellmans) and lay the cheese on the warm bread so it melts just a little. Maybe a little Grey Poupon. Add sliced tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, and red onion.

maybe a nice glass of white wine, too.

Enjoy :)

holly jolly blogfest

I'm a tiny bit early for this but I won't have the time tomorrow - especially if I want to check out the other posts for this fest.

this is the tree...

this is the recipe:
hot cheese dip

1C sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1C yellow onions chopped very fine
1C mayo - I use Hellman's

mix and bake at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. The top will get a little brown and bubbly. You can serve it with chips or crackers.

This is the drink:
hot buttered rum

1 stick unsalted butter, softened
2 cups light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
Pinch ground cloves
Pinch salt
Bottle dark rum
Boiling water

In a bowl, cream the butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Refrigerate until almost firm. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture into 12 small mugs. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug (filling about halfway). Top with boiling water (to fill the remaining half), stir well, and serve immediately.

enjoy ;)
