Loved loved loved Mike Mulligan & his Steam Engine. My fav would probably be a Mike I cared for, BITD when I did family child care. Happy, sweet-tempered child, but his parent dubbed him The Unicorn because he fell into something, hard, raising a bump on his forehead, and for several months afterwards, every time it was almost gone he'd slam it into something again.
I like the Mike in the commercial: "Look! Mikey likes it" (whatever it was - cereal, I think). An arbiter of taste is a picky little kid. Thanks for stopping by my blog, mshatch!
Seriously though, Michael J. Fox is a hero I think of for the name Michael. He's one of our Canadian actors who grew up in Vancouver and suffers from Parkinsons. He has founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation to aid in finding cures for this disease.
I wanted to name my son "Michael" but my husband's brother had the same name. That wouldn't do. My first sweetheart is Michael O'Hara. He turned out pretty good too, his wife is lucky.
We have that book. It's not one of my favorites - I'm more of a Horrible Harry kind of girl, but my husband and son read it together a lot. Good choice.
My husband, son, and son-in-law. It's real interesting when we all get together. When our daughter got married, I met our SIL's Uncle Mike, and told him, "I'm sorry. You're going to have to leave. We've already met our quota for Mikes." (Good thing he had a good sense of humor.)
NO MORE MIKES PLEASE! I hated that I was named Michael because my dad was Michael and there at least three other Michael's in my class at school.
With so many wonderful and usual names to pick, I still hear mother's screaming at their Michael's. It seems we get into a lot of mischief even though we are supposedly like God, Hmmm... hardly. History speaks for itself...
I hope all is well with you Marcy... Say hi to your mom for me.
Love that book! And I have a special Mike in my own life :)
ReplyDeletelucky you :)
DeleteI can't remember reading that book and must find it to read.
ReplyDeleteA couple of colleagues have the name--Matt, but no Mikes. But, I was very close to my cousin Mike when I was a teen. We are no longer buddies though.

Mike is not my favorite name for a guy. Let's just leave it at that. :)
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings, too.

ReplyDeleteIt's a great story. I recently heard that the author wrote the steam shovel into the corner without knowing how to get him out!
DeleteGreat Mikes!

That was Life cereal, one of my favorites :) and I love Michael J., too, esp. in the Back to the Future series.

And that is the same definition for the one in the Bible - who is like God.

ReplyDeletehe was pretty hot. I saw them once with Tom Petty. Good concert.
DeleteI think Mike Meyers is great too! Most of the Mikes we know are "Michaels," and if you call them Mike they won't answer! Julie
