Existence

A few weeks ago I signed up for this blogfest, thinking I could tell you all about my favorite book of the month, this book:
Gerald Livingston is an orbital garbage collector. For a hundred years, people have been abandoning things in space, and someone has to clean it up. But there’s something spinning a little bit higher than he expects, something that isn’t on the decades’ old orbital maps. An hour after he grabs it and brings it in, rumors fill Earth’s infomesh about an “alien artifact.”

Thrown into the maelstrom of worldwide shared experience, the Artifact is a game-changer. A message in a bottle; an alien capsule that wants to communicate. The world reacts as humans always do: with fear and hope and selfishness and love and violence. And insatiable curiosity.(Amazon)

Sadly, I'm embarrassed to admit I've made very little progress. I blame this on work, which, while I am grateful to have found a job, I also find it to be very time consuming! I haven't even read one book this month! Granted, Existence is long enough to make two, but still, I'm only a few hundred pages in. And since I haven't finished it I can't really say much except that I'm enjoying it.

What are you reading? Did you sign up for the fest? Want to see who did?

  2. That's all right - Squid will understand. Takes me a long time to read a book as well.

  3. The Amazon blurb alone is highly intriguing. The cosmic garbage collector idea reminds me of a Backyardigans episode.

And of course, Alex is correct. This is all about sharing our love of reading. No judgments or guilt - at least, not from me. I'm so glad you've joined us!

  6. The book looks really good. From what I understand, we really do need an orbital garbage collector. I'm going to check it out. I finally picked up Dan Brown's Inferno this week to read.

  10. I've been reading very short novels. Things that are maybe 100 pages. So, novellas or short stories, really. It's nice to finish things in one sitting.

But now I'm intrigued by this book. Sigh. One more thing for the TBR pile.

  11. Glad you have a job. When it comes to reading, I'm a demon. I read into the early hours of the morning as I don't need much sleep thank goodness. This book looks intriguing. Be interested if you review it when you finish it. :D

  14. I have FINALLY decided to read a bit every night before I crash... I haven't read consistently since I began writing, but now, since my accident I've decided it's too important to neglect.

I am currently ready Anne R. Allen's, THE GATSBY GAME... so far I really am enjoying it...

    Have a great weekend, Marcy...

  16. The description sounds intriguing. I can sympathize with the lack of time to do more reading... I have joked to The Armchair Squid before that often the "best book of the month" is the ONLY book I've read that month! :) Hope you continue to enjoy it.

Sci-fi is my favorite genre, and that book does sound great, so I will have to look for it, thanks for the review!
