Ice Dogs

I read this book courtesy of Terry Lynn Johnson and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminded me a bit of Call of the Wild, one of my favorite books.

It begins with fourteen-year old Victoria, a self-reliant girl who has recently lost her father who taught her everything she knew. But when a routine trek with her dogs (and what a crew; I LOVED the dogs!) collides with a snowstorm and an injured boy from "away," well, let's just say things get interesting from there, and then, just when I thought they were safe, wham! They weren't. I really liked this book and think it would appeal to almost anyone who likes a good adventure in the freezing cold of Alaska...brrr.

  1. Dog lovers will eat this up. Love those snow dogs. So tough.

And Call of the Wild was one of my favs as a kid too, though I recently tried to read a different kind of Jack London story this week -- a post-apocalyptic - and it wasn't so good.

  4. I was recently asked where I'd set a romance if I wrote one, and I picked Alaska during the Ididerod race. I think that would be full of adventure and incredible settings. (And I'd need those to hold my interest since straight romance isn't my forte.) This book looks fabulous, and I'd love to read it! Have a great weekend, Marcy! :)

  5. Doggone it! (heh heh) Yet another book to add to the list of books to buy today. I'm NEVER gonna catch up. (Your book is very rude. It broke in line... but I thoroughly enjoyed it.)

  7. I want to read Ice Dogs even though I'm not usually a reader of nature survival stories. Terry is a blogger friend, and I've heard good things about this book. Sometimes, I enjoy an exception to my normal reading tastes!

  8. I don't tend to read these types of stories either but I love Ice Dogs; it made me feel like I was right there with Victoria freezing my butt off!

  9. Did they make this one into a movie? Seems like it sounds like a movie I heard about.
