Changes & Reflections

I don't know about you, but I don't like change. If I was a kid in school, my teachers would probably say I don't transition well. This means I like to plan ahead. For example, if my brother were to call me right now (it's 7:16p Saturday night) and ask me to come over and play Skyrim, I would probably say no because I already have a plan for the night, lame as it might be (in this order: jammies, a drink, and some Supernatural). It also means I don't much like like surprises unless they're like, you just won a million dollars or this is Donald Maass calling. I had a boyfriend once who threw me a surprise party and I hated it. So when I tell you I am selling my house (that I've lived in for the past 18 years) you might have an idea how I feel.

The good news is once I sell my house, I'm moving into this wicked cool Victorian with my sister...

It's about twenty minutes from where I am now, and I'll miss my location which is pretty killer, but the house I'm moving into is also pretty killer, with pocket doors, and four floors counting the basement and attic. It's HUGE. The attic actually has five rooms!!! I'm thinking library/office...? Anyway. It's a good thing, and I know that, but it means I have to move and pack and get my house ready to sell asap. This has left me very little writing time, which sucks, and it's also why I didn't get around to anywhere near as many A-Z posters as I wanted to during the month of April. The whole moving thing happened quite quickly (AGH!!!) and I've had to come up with a new mantra: "You can only do what you can do."

Anyway. That's the way the cookie is crumbling is around here. At some point (soon I hope) I'll actually post some pics of my freshly painted house. Who knows, maybe someone out there will find it perfect and we can all live happily ever after :)

So, how's your Monday?

  1. Cool new house! Five rooms in the attic alone? Wow, that is huge for two people.
I don't like change either, so I understand your trauma.

  2. I so don't like change either, and that's all I've had over the last two years. Major ones like your house sale, too. I love the new house you're going to move to. Glad you're taking the plunge and moving into hopefully a fantastic new home.

    1. Big changes like moving are very stressful but a long run of smaller changes can be just as stressful. I hope things even out for you!

  3. I intend to be doing what you're doing next year at this time. We've already started with some repairs. We'll see where it goes from there. Good luck and that is a cool house.

    1. That's good you're planning ahead. This all came about rather suddenly. I just can't wait to live in that col house!

  4. I think you did a fabulous job on the challenge with all this on your plate! I hate moving, too, and have lived in this old ranch style house for over twenty years. Best wishes on everything going smoothly as possible.

  5. I'm exactly like you when it comes to change. It makes me feel like something's eating at my insides. The house looks AWESOME :)

  6. Great house!! I'm a planner too but I have learned over the past couple of years to be more spontaneous and allow myself some 'off plan' fun :) Thanks for sharing.

  7. Love old Victorian styles. Good luck in your move and hope it goes well. I moved last July and downsized but looks like you can up-size! Thanks for visiting my blog during the A to Z. Much appreciated.

    1. I enjoyed your posts. I actually like small, but financially it will be a good move to share expenses. Cripes, I might even be able to save!

  8. The Victorian house sounds killer. And for the attic, I love the idea of making it into a library. Good luck with the move.

    1. It's a beautiful house with lots of fun period details. The attic would make an awesome library.

  11. I'd most definitely be graded as "doesn't handle transitions all that well." Here's to plenty of ease and grace and good luck in selling your current home and moving into that fabulous Victorian.

  12. Doesn't handle transitions at ALL well here. My motto for many years has been I can do anything if I have to. I do wish the envelope didn't get so thoroughly tested.
Good luck with the move. Your new abode looks brilliant. But moving sucks.

  13. I'm not fond of change either. It's tough. I hope that you have an awesomely and amazingly easy move and that your new house is so perfect that the transition goes as easy as possible.
    Happy writing and life!

  14. I know exactly what you mean. If I have an evening planned in, I won't go out to do something fun because I have an evening planned in.

Change may suck, but just think how cool the new place will be. The transition will pass. Congrats on the new place.

  15. Wow! What an awesome house!
Moving is a terrible pain. I've always said that it's impossible to empty a house. There's always one more drawer or closet you forgot about.

But for a house like that, the pain will be worth it!

    That's a lovely looking house!

  17. I am not super great with change either. When it does happen, I comfort myself with the fact that I am building character. Or something like that. :) Thanks so much for commenting on my post at Tyrean's. It's great to meet you. Enjoy the rest of the week!

  18. Good luck with house sale! I'm also having to learn to live by that same mantra. It's become a daily thing now. Why can't I be superwoman? I'll never know. :)

  19. That house is absolutely gorgeous. I hope you guys love it. Me? I LOVE change. Must be some gypsy blood in there somewhere because if I had my way I'd be living in a caravan and moving whenever the fancy struck me.

  20. Best wishes on selling your current house and moving into that lovely FOUR-level house. Sounds like a good change in general, and I hope you transition well. I think I personally love change, but only if I'm in control of it. Haha.

  22. Oh, my! Lucky you! I'm dying with the idea of a huge office and library in the attic!

  23. That house is gorgeous, and I think moving into a place like that is well worth whatever changes you have to make to get there. Plus... maybe it's haunted! Then you could have a ghost or two join you when you're watching Supernatural movies. (You can serve them Booberries...)

    1. I concur! And it did occur to me there might be a ghost or two in such an old and haunty looking house...

  24. You should come to Pikes Peak Writers Conference next April. Donald Maass will be there!

That house is lovely. And how cool that you're moving in with your sister! I love attics. Ours is more of a crawl space than an attic. :(

  25. I typically get excited by change, but I can understand. After my last baby (on the heels of a move & a book release etc) I was totally a shut in who had a hard time with anything new. I'm slowly working out of that place, but I would take a late night TV show over being social too.

Whew! Take some cheese to help smooth your insanity, eh?
