Blue Sludge Blues Cover Reveal

Today's the day for the cover reveal of my horror short story collection, Blue Sludge Blues & Other Abominations!

A collection of frights, from the psychological to the monstrous. These tales are a reminder of how much we have to fear: a creature lurking in the blue, sludgy depths of a rest area toilet; a friendly neighbor with a dark secret hidden in his basement; a woman with nothing more to lose hellbent on vengeance; a hike gone terribly wrong for three friends; a man cursed to clean up the bodies left behind by an inhuman force. These and other stories prowl the pages of this short story collection.

Release Date: March 15, 2018

Available for Pre-Order in e-book now at the following locations:

Will also be available in trade paperback from Amazon US and UK, Apple iBooks and everywhere else Smashwords distributes to, and Amazon in other countries.

Thank you to my husband, Jeff Lawrence, for the cover design, and to Jared Hagan for my author photos.

A fan of all things fantastical and frightening, Shannon Lawrence writes primarily horror and fantasy. Her stories can be found in magazines and anthologies, including Space and Time MagazineDark Moon Digest, and Spinetingler. Though she often misses the ocean, the majestic and rugged Rockies are a sight she could never part with. Besides, in Colorado there's always a place to hide a body or birth a monster. What more could she ask for?

Cover Reveal for Bottled by Carol Riggs

BOTTLED:

At seventeen, Adeelah Naji is transformed into a genie and imprisoned in a bottle. For a thousand years, she fulfills the wishes of greedy masters—building their palaces, lining their pockets with gold, and granting them every earthly pleasure. All that sustains her is the hope of finding Karim, the boy she fell in love with as a human. When at last she finds a note from her beloved, she confirms he has access to the elixir of life and that he still searches for her.

But someone else also hunts her. Faruq—the man who plots to use her powers to murder and seize the life forces of others—is just one step behind her. With the help of a kind master named Nathan, Adeelah continues to search for Karim while trying to evade Faruq. To complicate matters, she begins to experience growing fatigue and pain after conjuring, and finds herself struggling against an undeniable attraction to Nathan.

As Faruq closes in, Adeelah must decide just how much she’ll risk to protect Nathan and be with Karim forever. How much power does she really have to change her future, and what is she willing to sacrifice for an eternity of love? If she makes the wrong choice, the deaths of many will be on her hands.

It's Monday

So, in writing news I am more than half-way through my final (I really mean this, really!) revisions (p. 194 of 301), I had a great dinner at my mom's on Saturday with killer chocolate cake AND apple crisp for dessert. I took a ton of pics at the pumpkinfest but sadly did not make it to the catapult or the smashing of the car. I am however going to check youtube because there just might be a video I can snag. We'll see.

In other news here are some links to check out:

Milo is offering free stuff at his place the entire month of October!

Jamie is hosting a birthday giveaway.

Want an amazing free crit on that query you're thinking of sending off? Head over to the QQQE, where Matt McNish will critique yours expertly.

And, Charity posted about THIS last Monday and revealed the cover for her book:

Congratulations Charity!!!

Oh, and I won't be around on Wednesday but I'll be back on Friday with something interesting and helpful, and maybe a sneak preview of my pumpkinfest pictures ;)

speaking of covers...

This could be the cover of namesake...it's appropriately spooky, don't you think?

the cover

I think I found the perfect covers for my book Grimoire and namesake. Of course, I realize I may not have a whole lot to say about the cover, but I can dream can’t I? I can find pretty pictures and imagine. Anyway, I found my pretty pictures at http://www.deviantart.com/. You may have heard of it. It’s a pretty cool site.

Meanwhile, spring is coming and I know this because lots of birds have come back, among them, the red-winged blackbird. My son is kind of a bird nut and he says they come back early to establish territory. He calls it bird politics. At dusk we can hear the woodcock make his courting noises. Apparently these guys have quite the mating ritual.

As for what I’m working on...well, I’ve been editing Grimoire a tiny bit, cheating with a few new ideas, and occasionally getting back to namesake. In fact, as soon as I’m done here I’m heading over to check on Louis who has gone for a run.

Do you have a dream cover for your book (and if so where did you find the art?) or a particular cover that drew you in? Have you ever bought a book based on the cover?

new book #1

This book has been on my list ever since I finished Incarceron last year. Incarceron is about Finn who lives inside the live prison, and Claudia, who lives out. She lives among the priveleged in a stagnant society mimicking a time that never existed. She tries to help Finn get out.

Sappique is the sequel (Isn't the cover beautiful? Covers attract me. I'm a moth to their luminous light.). Mind you Incarceron does stand on its own but ending does not wrap everything up with a pretty ribbon. Much is left to the reader's imagination or guesswork and hopefully Sapphique will tell the rest of the story. But I didn't look at the inside cover. I'm just going to open the book and start reading, knowing that I'm in for a treat. Because Catherine Fisher is my one of my favorite writers; she knows how to write a story with real and true characters to care about, flawed characters, evil characters, strange characters but all interesting characters and possessing their own motives, which moves the story of this place stuck in time. I can't wait to begin!

But first I have to finish Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. I'll just share one quick thing about this book (which I definitely recommend if you like your fantasy a little dark and twisted). There are these creatures in it called Slake-moths. They suck you dry of sentience and leave you a mindless drooling idiot. Now I ask you, is not slake-moth exactly the perfect name for such a creature?

ps enjoy your sunday; it's actually sweater weather here! Yay!
