As I mentioned before, my son is a birder, a hobby/interest/obsession I would never have guessed he'd acquire. He's also a fairly proficient musician (guitar), loves SLAYER, and has tattoos; in other words, not who you picture out in the woods with a pair of binoculars trying to spy the Wood Thrush he just heard.
Anyway. We're talking about the Pelican today, as pictured above. My soon took that one in Florida back in 2011 I think. He's a Brown Pelican, and one of only two kinds of pelicans that dive into the water to feed. From Wikipedia: "When foraging, pelicans may fly a few feet or a considerable height over a school of fish and dive at high speed into the water, often submerging completely below the surface momentarily as they snap up prey. Upon surfacing they spill the water from the throat pouch before swallowing their catch"
Is that crazy or what? This pic is from Wiki. |
Meanwhile, I'm busy revising THE UNSOLVED CASE OF KASSANDRA DYER, completely changing one of my character arcs, and waiting for my second round of edits to come back to me on my soon-to-be- actual-book that I can hold in my hands. One of these days I may even have an actual title to share with you guys...
Oh, and the lobster bake was fabulous. More on that Friday - have a wicked good week :)
