a difference of opinion

this morning on Inkwell one of the members posted a discussion: "If you were an agent..." The premise being pretend you are one and decide whether to request more of the the first 5-10 pages. I declined and gave my reasons. Another member replied to the discussion and loved what what was posted. Which just goes to show how varied opinions are.

This is good news for those of us who write because sooner or later we will query that agent who will absolutely love what we've written. I know, we've all heard before how every rejection brings us closer to acceptance but it really is true. And it's even true when comparing different works by the same author. I'm thinking of Robin Hobb. I loved her Assassin & Fool series, utterly and completely. But I didn't care much for the Forest Mage trilogy and didn't even bother with the Liveship Traders books because the premise didn't appeal. Or think of Inkheart which I hated with a passion and yet there were enough people who liked it that it actually got turned into a movie.

So take heart my fellow writers. Our day will come.
