chapter 48 - casualties

Remember a while back when I mentioned the thing about building a house and burning it down? Anyway, I’ve reached that place in my tale, Grimoire. Some of my characters did not make it to chapter 49 –sadly. And I’m afraid something has happened to Vathek, my imp, well, Arlen’s imp really. Of course, I can’t tell you what it is because I don’t want to spoil the story. But suffice it to say unpleasant things happen to nearly everyone in this chapter. The next chapter – 49 – will sort it all out. And then the wrap up.

And I figured out why it’s taking me longer to write these last few chapters. It’s because I have lots of ends to tie up, messes to clean up. It was much easier unraveling everything, creating mysteries. It’s much harder to solve them.

  1. WHAT? WHO didn't make it?
    Wait. Don't tell me.
    Dang it.

  2. I so agree on the tying-all-of-the-loose-ends stuff. You're right. Much more fun to create all the loose ends than making sure they all come together. But the challenge is always very rewarding when you succeed. I'm sure you will figure it out. And like, wow, you're very near to the end. (Happy dance)Way to go, Marcy!

  3. The amount of times I've written myself into a hole and have no idea how to get my characters out. But if we make a mess, then we have to find a way of cleaning it up ;)

  4. Dianne, you'll just have to wait - but not too long :)

Buffy, yeah, almost there, less than 10,000 words to go!

Lynda, yep. I do this all the time, get my characters into jams I have no clue how they're going to get out of. Most times, I think they're the ones who figure it out, not me!

  5. That's so cool though that you're near the end. It much feel great.

  6. I think this is the most difficult part of the writing. And when it is done well, it is what "proves" the tale.

I hope the gods are with you as you gather up all the pieces!
