should I?

I know you might find this surprising, but I finally got my first cell phone yesterday. I know, I was probably the last person in the entire world who didn't have one, but budget considerations forced to me to remain cell-less - until yesterday. I got my taxes back on friday and decided to splurge a tiny bit. But because I'm trying to spend my money more wisely than I have in the past I did not go all out and get a blackberry or an iphone, which is what I would've liked. Instead I went to my local - forgive me - walmart and got straight talk for a mere $30/mo and a little samsung phone, nothing too fancy but it does have the qwerty keyboard to make texting easy. Sadly no aps, no surfing the web, no checking on my blog or yours, altho I can access the web in limited fashion. But at least I'm connected, right? Anyway, the question is, should I tweet? I hadn't before because, hey, no cell. Now that I can, however, I wonder if I really want to. Do you tweet? Is it a time suck? Or have you found it helpful? And if so, how?

  1. Yay on the new cell phone! I always get my husbands hand-me-downs because he's already gotten them organized (he uses them for his work more than anything). Cell phones and cameras defeat me.

I've never tweeted! If you get into it, please post and let me know if it's really fun!

  2. Yay for the new phone! I tweeted for a bit then dropped it. Just no time! For it builds and builds and you've gotta stay on top of it, oy!

  3. I have a twitter account and am following agents. I love it because I can get a feel for what they are looking for and they also post helpful links. But I don't tweet. I just don't have anything interesting to say, yet. I would recommend getting a twitter account and start building your followers. If you need a list of agents I have a list somewhere just shoot me an email.

Good luck with your new phone.

  4. No, now I'm the only person on the planet without a cell phone! Only I don't have one because I don't want one.

  5. I have a cell phone, finally, after having nothing for the last several years. Truthfully, I don't use it. I don't like to text, and I don't like to talk on the phone, so it's just for emergencies.

As for Twitter - Personally, I like it. I don't get sucked into it (mostly because it's Facebook and blog reading that is my time suck), so I don't waste too much of my life on Twitter, but I really like being connected to friends and writers, and it's nice to be able to pop in and say hello to people every now and again.

  6. I don't have a cell phone, either Alex and mshatch. Honestly, I don't like them. Had one long ago and ditched it.

I don't Tweet or use Facebook, either. I'd much rather play in the lab and soon, play out in the garden.

Mshatch: Do you want to Tweet? If you do, then go for it.

  7. Congrats on the cell phone! I say go for it on Twitter. I've been thinking about doing that too lately.

I like what E. Arroyo said about learning what agents like.

  8. Alex and Happy, congrats on NOT following the crowd! Mostly I wanted one because it's a new tech toy and I like stuff like that. But also because occasionally I fly and it's really helpful. Plus if I broke down or got into an accident, having a cell would help. In fact, I came across an accident not so long ago and could've called 911 if I had a cell. As for twitter, I think the only reason I'm interested (and not much, mind you) is because there are agents to follow and who knows if it would help. Anyway, I'm going to think on it some more but thank you all for your input and marisa I will definitely friend you if I get an account.

  10. I have a cell phone, but I don't use it ;)
I do tweet though. It isn't a time sink for me because I don't spend hours on it (which admittedly is easy to do). It's fun and helpful and connects me to other writers.

  11. I have a friend here who is a mom of two but does not own a cell phone, and she is just fine without it.

I do not Tweet, nor am I interested.
I do however use facebook- but when I move back to the US I don't think I will have much use for it.

    I like Blogs the best.
But let me know how it goes, curious if it is useful.

  12. I STILL don't have a cell phone and I Tweet... granted, not a lot, but I use it to promote my blog and on occasion I follow some of the discussions (#askagent is good). My thought on the matter is why not. You may not use it much, but you may love it.

  13. Everyone should have a cell phone for emergencies at the very least so it's really exiting to get your first one and might I add you don't seem to be so easily influenced by market trends which is a good thing when it comes to saving money. I've got a busy life with too many things to do which I never get around to doing so another distraction to tweet is just another stress I can't take on.
I find the Straight Talk $30 plan economical, not too frugal, for half an hour's of calls and 30 texts a day and it has great coverage and reception.
I can't help thinking you would enjoy the Straight Talk Nokia E71 smart phone for $200 as you enjoy your website so much and the phone has 3G speed web browsing. It's more the monthly fee you have to watch to save money and Straight Talk's got the cheapest unlimited with the most features.

  14. Yay! You have a cell. We'll really need to chat, now. I started tweeting. Yeah, I can help you a little. I still stink at it. Hah...

  16. Yay on the cell phone!

I tweet occasionally, but you know what, I haven't really found it as addictive as other forms of social networking, like Facebook or blogging. Twitter makes me feel like I crashed a really good party, where nobody is actually talking to me, but yet nobody minds that I'm there.

  17. Apps?! Tweeting?!! One thing at a time, my friend!

    :-)

I tweet my posts, but otherwise, everything I have to say is in my daily blog. If I start tweeting as well, I'll run out of things to say!

  18. I don't have a cell phone. I used to, but I work out of home (i.e. I'm a stay at home mom who spends most of her time writing). I do need one for when I'm out (especially if something happens to the van when I'm driving), but I haven't got around to getting one yet. I would though, like to be able to tweet on it--once I get one.
