In the phonetic alphabet, Charlie represents the letter C. During the Viet Nam war the Viet Cong (VC) were known in military slang as "Charlie", short for "Victor Charlie"
A few famous Charlies:
Charlie Chaplin
Charlie Rose
Charlie Brown
But my favorite is Charlie's Angels, starring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz.
Laugh if you will at my taste but this was a fun movie, "pure style-over-substance ... and the script, the whole script, injects enough camp to make this piece sit right there with the original TV show."*
Plus it has Bill Murray as Bosley. I mean, how can you go wrong there?

Oh I so enjoy the new Charlie's Angels film franchise but continue to have a soft soft spot for Farah, Kate and Jacklyn and Doyle! I've not seen the new TV remake though - I think it got cancelled after like one series! LOL! Take care

I missed the new show, too - probably just as well...
DeleteI wasn't as hot for the movie as I was for the series. Maybe that's because I was younger back then. I so wanted to be Jacklyn Smith.
ReplyDeletefunny, I felt just the opposite - not that I didn't love the angels and the mysterious charlie back in the day. And yeah, I liked Jacklyn best, too :)
DeleteLoved the movie too!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun!
DeleteMissed the movie, but still have a soft spot for the old show...
ReplyDeleteme too :)
DeleteI did enjoy Bill Murray as Bosley. He was a lot of fun in that role.

He was very funny.
DeleteI loved the movie and watched the series all the time when it first began. I wanted to be Kate's character.
ReplyDeleteShe was the smart one.
DeleteLOVED Charlie's Angels. Great show, and the movies were pretty good too. Awesome post.
ReplyDeletePlus, it has Drew Barrymore. 'Nuff said.
ReplyDeletelol
DeleteDefinitely one of my favs.... Loved Jaclyn Smith!
ReplyDeleteAnd Charlie Brown is still one of my favorite cartoons strips...
I loved the holiday specials and how the grown ups sounded.
DeleteI will never forget having a conversation with a group of Student employees several years ago (Late 90's) at UMaine...I was making a point about something very important I'm sure but Charlie Chaplin's name came into it. And I got a whole lot of blank stares back at me. They had no idea who I was talking about! So Very Very sad! And rather pathetic...
ReplyDeleteThat is sad!
DeleteYou may like your Charlie's Angels!
ReplyDeletethank you :)
DeleteCharlie's Angels was a good watch. I mean, campy or not, they were so kick-ass in it. Yay girl power!
ReplyDeleteNow that Charlie Brown has been mentioned, I really want to hear the Peanuts song :-)
exactly! campy AND kick ass!
DeleteI love the original and I still watch them on DVD. Even have some clipped for quizes, but I haven't gotten around to posting them yet.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun.
good to know I may have a chance at winning one of your quizes!
DeleteFarah Fawcett! *sigh*
ReplyDeleteyeah, she was pretty smokin' - but so is Cameron Diaz and she can dance!
DeleteI loved the original Charlie's Angels but haven't seen the new ones.
ReplyDeleteI blogged about a different Charly today :)
I liked that charly - sad ending though.
DeleteLovely C and "Charlies" Good choice of C do check my C too at GAC a-z
ReplyDeleteI have a nephew Charlie that I'm rather fond of too....
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about Vietnam. I am learning a lot today with this challenge.
ReplyDeleteI didn't much like the movies. However, I enjoyed the television series as a kid.
ReplyDeleteI loved Charlie's Angels as a kid but didn't really want to see the movie. It just couldn't have been as good as the original (and I didn't care for the cast or Angels). But I'm glad you brought the show back to mind. Fun times watching the Angels run in their heals! lol
ReplyDeleteMy favourite Charlie was Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Poor kid didn't get a break, and then got it all. What kid doesn't want that?

I so wanted to be one of the Charlie's Angels when I was younger. My friends and I would run around and track down the bad guys, posing with our "guns" out, flipping our hair back.
