combing my hair in a brand new way

Ok, not really, as I tend to stick to the same few styles (braid, clip, tail), but in light of what I’ve been doing when not revising/cutting The Way to Dendara this seemed like the perfect title and song to go with the post. I only wish there were an actual video to go with the music. Ah well.

But yeah, I admit it. I’ve been cheating, a little.

Although I’m not sure if you can actually call it cheating when you’re in revisions. Technically Dendara and I are finished. It’s just a matter of revising and polishing and sending out into the world.

But I am doing something different with my new toy. I’m not plunging in. And I'm not actually writing much of the story itself except sketches. Instead I’m taking notes. I’m thinking about how I want the story arranged, in parts. I'm think about theme. I’m asking questions, creating a time line, plotting, making labels for chapters according to memories…

I think I might be outlining, in a messy kind of way.

  1. But hey, outlining is good! It's something. Love the music, it's very different.

  5. I'm more of a vague outliner. I write a few notes, know where I want things to go and write away. I have though, with my most recent project, started an excel spreadsheet with all my characters and all the locations in the story so I can keep myself organized. I flip back and forth while I'm writing. I hated outlining when I was in school and can't get myself to be formal with it. Good for you!

  6. Not cheating at all. Each project dictates its own best approach, and the smart writer pays attention. Sounds to me like your new approach makes you a smart writer.

  7. I'm turning more and more to outlining as well, I just think of it as being a little more prepared.

  9. Outlining SNEAKS UP ON YOU! I swear, I never used to do it, but recently... I think I might be. It's weird.

  10. I think you might be outlining too. :) But this is a good thing! I love outlining - it really helps me see where I want the story to go.
