I have to thank Matt over at the QQQE for this prompt and boy did it come at an opportune time since I had absolutely nothing for today. Now, thanks to Matt, we have monsters. Here are a few of my favorites:
Alien/Aliens: Just imagine for one moment you've stepped into the midst of an egg field and you hear that icky gooey noise as another egg slides out of the massive mother alien. The walls rustle like a thousand snakes and you're suddenly surrounded by horrifying aliens with nasty little heads that dart out of their mouths. My favorite line? When Ripley says, "You can't hep them. They're already being cocooned."
The Thing: what could be more insidious than a creature who can imitate anything? You wouldn't even know who it was - until it was too late.
The Walking Dead: What can I say? I love zombies well done :)
HP: the dementors. What a perfect and awful monster to invent, something that just sucks all the joy and happiness from you.
Hyperion: The Shrike. Just the name is enough to give you an idea of how unpleasant it might be to meet. Think sharp.
So who/what are some of your favorite monsters?
Best monster ever: The Alien. You know, Sigourney Weaver's Alien.
ReplyDeleteI also have a fondness for sympathetic monsters, like Edward Scissorhands, or Billy, the zombie ex-husband of Winifred Sanderson in Hocus Pocus.
And perhaps monsters who aren't nearly as terrifying as they'd like to be, such as Beetlejuice.
LOL The literary world's version of the dementors is the rejection on your full. Now that's the scariest monster of all. :D
ReplyDeleteHappy Monster Blogging.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I prefer my monsters to be of the quiet and rarely sighted kind such as Loch Ness Monster and Sasquatch. They seem to mind their own business and when it comes to monsters, I think that is an excellent trait :D
ReplyDeleteGlad I could inspire! I love your list. Thanks Marcy!
ReplyDeleteAnd I decided to blog about monsters all week long.
Aliens are pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteCarrie's mum in the film (and book) was pretty monstrous! Oh and the nasty girls who tormented her!
ReplyDeleteTake care
x
Being a squeamish baby myself, and a stay at home mom to 4 young children, my favorite monsters are Grover on Sesame Street and Mike and Sully of Monsters, Inc. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, never heard of the Shrike. Not sure I want to know what it is.
ReplyDeleteThe Dementors scare the *** out of me. Really. Can't think of much worse, unless they were slimy too.
ReplyDeleteJoan Crawford from Mommy Dearest.
ReplyDeleteDianne, loved Beetlejuice. Micheal Keaton is awesome!
ReplyDeleteStina, yup.
Matthew, I'll be checking to see who/what you like :)
Alex, definitely.
Old kitty, that's a great example! Carrie's
mother was a nightmare!
Jenny, I LOVE Mike and Sully :)
Natalie, read Hyperion by Dan Simmons. Highly recommended.
Liza, yeah, gotta give JK a hand.
Sharon, nice! An oldy but goody :)
Anything demons freaks me out. But you touched based on most of the scary ones. =)
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! The first time I saw Alien, I freaked out it was such an awesome monster! I really like your choices...
ReplyDeleteI'm so hooked on The Walking Dead! Usually zombies aren't my thing, but there's such a great storyline to the show.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I can't think of any favorite monsters at the moment, but I liked your choices.
I don't have a favorite monster, per se, but I am always (ALWAYS :-)) fascinated by the amazing human creativity that allows them to be dreamed up in the first place. Thanks for getting me thinking on this :-)
ReplyDeleteFavorite monsters: Dementors, because I can't imagine what the world would be like with no happiness.
ReplyDeleteThe Blob, I didn't find it all that scary as a child but it was very unsettling. Plus I didn't eat jello for years because my brother said that's all it was.
I love your list! I need to queue up The Thing. It's been a few months since I've watched it. :D
ReplyDeleteE., I love a good demon :)
ReplyDeletePat, I completely agree. I think I must've watched that movie a hundred times!
Jamie, love The Walking Dead. But nothing happened last time! They didn't find Sophie and poor Carl is still lying at Death's door!
Klo, it's our fears that make the monsters.
Giggles, yeah, those dementors suck, literally.
Hannah, I own The Thing. It's one of those movies where I know practically all the lines.
ha--Just watched I Am Number Four over the weekend (not that it;s the only representation of aliens)! Sigourney's scared the begeezus out of me!
ReplyDeleteOooh, um, I'd have to say the body snatchers. Does that count? The characters couldn't fall asleep and that terrified me!
