Dreaming 101

In the dream I'm at a school in a room (building?) in the back. To my right is the door I came in with a window I can see through. Directly ahead of me is another window which looks over the campus. There are trees and well kept paths and grass clipped short. Inside are the usual things, a long table where work is done, cabinets for supplies, a closet, off-white linoleum floor. The strange thing is the cake on the table, chocolate with white icing, half gone. I can see how moist it is and I want some. But then I see figures outside the glass on both sides. Figures clad in black with guns and masks. I duck down, not wanting to be seen but it's too late.

Someone is there, suddenly, inside the room. I can't see who for the mask but the black can't quite conceal the sex and she raises her weapon. We grapple and I get my arm around her throat, squeezing tight, cutting off her air until I feel her go limp and then a final twist - snap! She falls limp to the floor.

I escape out the door behind me and am soon in my car speeding away, just in time to see a massive plume of amber rise up from the school behind me...

So you see why I like to sleep...and dream.

  1. besides the usual dreams (in the rush to make an appointment, I forget my clothes), I have a recurring scene.

I am in an open field under a moonless sky. And spaceships are battling over my head.

I am huddled in tall grass, trying to hide and not get lasered by their beams of light. Imagination? I got it.

  2. I have very vivid dreams every night. I can wake up every day and tell someone my dream. Most of them are just nonsense really, but some of the settings, characters, and now and again a plot will make it into my writing.

  3. wow--that's pretty intense. I don't remember many of my dreams, but my favorites are the ones where I'm drowning and then discover I can breathe underwater. I don't think I'll be writing a mermaid story any time soon, though :)

  5. I wonder why it is so many of us dream of people out to get us and how we never give up.

  6. I never remember my dreams that clearly.
I do recall that earlier this weekend, I dreamed about snakes with very sharp teeth. It was not pleasant, and I do not wish to recall the details!

    1. I think it means I really like chocolate cake and I like to pretend I'm bad-ass - hence my love of gaming :)

  10. Fascinating dream! Perhaps you should google it. I don't dream often but when I do, it's usually one with rising water. When I googled that I learned the symbolism means things are out of control. Gave that some thought, and, yep, small things had turned into mountains.

    1. I've had the rising water dream. Usually it's covering the road I need to use. Those dreams aren't fun.

  11. Generally I dream of things that I do all day...like gardening. Yawn. :) I'm not sure what THAT means...but sometimes I'm more tired when I wake up then when I went to bed!

    1. I have those dreams, too, the ones where the dream is obviously a twisted version of real life. But I like the movie dreams better, cuz that's what they're like, a movie, and I'm the star :)

  12. That was some vivid dream, Marcy.

I don't know if I mentioned it to you, but my second novel was based on a dream I had almost two years ago.

Dreams are very powerful and a great source for our writing.

    1. I agree, dreams can powerful and while I might not write about that particular dream, there are others that could easily turn into a novel - if I can remember it properly!
