The great give away

A few weeks ago I spoke about following and when and why to quit. Today I want to talk about gaining followers and one way* to do this is to give something away. So, guess what I'm going to do? Yup, that's right. I'm going to give some stuff (mostly books) away to celebrate 3 years in blogland.  Each week from now until September 26th I'll give something away and it will be extremely easy to win. All you have to do is 1. be a follower, 2. maybe mention my give away on your blog (you don't have to but I'd sure appreciate it if you did), and 3. tell me in the comments what you want to win.

Here's what's up for grabs along with a description:

Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn (four books) From Library Journal: As war threatens to rip apart a once peaceful land, a young kitchen boy turned magician's apprentice embarks on a journey that could save his world from the dark machinations of a king gone mad. The author of Tailchaser's Song draws on many mythologies for the background of his fantasy epic, creating a solid story spiced with political intrigue and strong, appealing heroes. Highly recommended - by Library Journal and me!

Tad Williams' Otherland (four books) When Renie Sulaweyo's younger, Stephen, brother is left in a coma after visiting Mister J's, a virtual reality equivalent of the Hellfire Club, she finds evidence that other children have lapsed into comas under similar circumstances. After retracing her brother's trail and barely escaping she discovers that someone has downloaded into her computer the impossibly complex image of a fantastic golden city. Soon it becomes clear that Renie has angered someone with almost unlimited power and the only way to find out who and save her brother is to enter the mysterious and terrifying VR environment called Otherland. If you like computer games and long for the day when you can actuqally become your avatar, you will love this series. I'm almost reluctant to give this series up as I write this but *gritting teeth* I will. For you.

Terry Pratchett's The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic (two books) The first two books of Pratchett's Discworld series. If you ever thought about getting into this series, here's your chance.

Stephanie Meyer's Twlight et al (four books) Love it, hate it, take your pick but here's an opportunity to read these books for free and see what the fuss was about.

A first chapter critique by yours truly.

Roget's Super Thesaurus, 3rd ed.by Mark McCutcheon (2003)

Hounded, by Kevin Hearne, which tells the tale of Atticus, last of the Druids, who is living quietly in Arizona until an old acquaintance looks him up. This is is a wicked fun kick-ass book.

I will choose one random winner from among those who comment over the course of the week and send them their choice. The drawings will take place on the following dates: August 15, 22, 29, September 5, 12, 19, and 26.

* the best way to gain followers is by having content that interests - imo - but I've been doing some serious housekeeping and I've got a lot of books that need to find new homes so I figured I'd do a give away. My house will be less cluttered and some of you will have something new to read or something critted. Win Win.

  1. Yay for giveaways - they're so much fun! Yours is a great idea, and you're giving away so MUCH it boggles the mind. If I get picked, I'd like a first chapter critique by you, Marcy. :-)

  3. So agree with you Marcy that giveaways draw more followers and keep them coming. I'm not going to enter the contest because my TBR stack is out of control right now.

  4. Talk about an awesome giveaway. It has been so many years since I've read something by Tad Williams. Otherland reminds me, in a way, of the anime hack/.sign (I think I wrote the title right lol!!) Sounds very interesting.

Giveaways are cool...I'm been following you for a while and have enjoyed your posts :-)

  6. Hooray for giveaways! I actually have NOT read all the Twilight books (I think I read part of the first one and didn't pursue the series for whatever reason), and would love to read them. I'd also love a first page critique! Off to tweet this contest! By the way, I love that door photo at the top of your blog :)

  10. Yeah! I know what you mean about having so many books. I just did a book giveaway too, and at an upcoming Oregon fall retreat, I plan to give away a dozen more as doorprizes! I love sharing (and rarely re-read a book anyway). Congrats on blogging for 3 years, and happy blogiversary!!
