Why I love my local bookstore

Last week I went into my local bookstore - The Maine Coast Book Shop - to spend the lovely gift certificates I received for my birthday. Needless to say it did not take me long to find something and while I was perusing the YA section - where I picked up  - the owner of the bookstore (who knows I love to read) approached me and asked if I might let them know what I thought of a couple of YA books. Of course I was more than happy to oblige. So back she goes after the ARCS and comes out with 10 (!!!) books, much to my delight:

MAGGOT MOON - read, mixed feelings
CREWELL - reading and enjoying
THE DROWNED CITIES
THE MAGICIAN KING
THE DARKEST MINDS
OUT OF THE EASY
A THUNDEROUS WHISPER
PULSE
SUMMER AND BIRD
JINX

plus I got THE PASSENGER, by Andrew Smith, THE GREAT NIGHT by Chris Adrian AND a $15 rewards certificate because I shop there enough. Am I a happy camper or what?

Happy Halloween all :)

  3. Sounds like you're going to have a lot of great reading time. I've got 77 books on my Kindle.

    Happy Halloween.

  4. It really paid to be an avid reader! What a treat. Of those, I've only heard of/read The Drowned Cities. Liked it as well as Ship Breaker, though it's a very different story.

    Happy Halloween!

    1. glad you liked it. The lady at the book store thought I wouldn't like it as much.

  5. Oh. Small town bookstores. I miss them so much. I mean sure Barnes and Noble has a great selection but the atmosphere is so clinical and sterile. No nooks, no window seats, no amazing book smell.

    1. ours is awesome. There's a cafe attached, owned by the same folks, and if you sign up for their frequent buyer program you get a gift cert. like I did every so often. I probably get two a year which means by shopping locally I get two free books a year as a thank you. Pretty darn cool eh?

  6. The joys of being a regular. Of course, we don't have any local bookstores around these parts. Sigh.

    1. Exactly. The owner knows me, knows I read a lot, and values my opinion. I just sent her my first two reviews.
