Battlestar Galactica
Battlestar Galactica is, in my opinion, the best scifi show ever. Now don't get me wrong, I adore Star Trek in all its incarnations and Firefly also sits at the top of my scifi list along with Stargate, Taken, The 4400, and a host of other shows. But BSG is just the best best frakking show ever and here's why:
1. Characters to love - and hate. Aside from the cylons - some of whom were easy to hate, others not so much - we had Starbuck, a kick-ass pilot turned visionary, Boomer aka Sharon, who not only tried to kill Adama but NEVER EVEN KNEW SHE WAS A FRAKKING CYLON!!!! And Baltar, who was practically responsible for the destruction of the colonies because of his lust for Six, played by the ever so sexy Tricia Helfer. But hey, who can blame him, right? And that's just three of the amazing characters.
2. A killer plot not to mention subplots to die for that were not only amazingly well-written but also spoke to the times we lived in.
3. Special effects to rival the big screen and - according to my brother the geek - accurate depictions of space flight.
It also won a bunch of awards and was praised by a wide range of reviewers. If you haven't seen this show I highly recommend you get it to watch. You won't be disappointed.

I thought it lost some steam half-way, but it was a huge leap from the original series. (Which inspired my books.) I really liked their Athena. And of course Number Six!
ReplyDeleteSix was pretty hot ;)
DeleteHi! Here from the A to Z! I was a fan of the original Battlestar but unfortunately, I've never seen the newer version. I should look into it. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by :)
Deletei loved the original bsg, but i havent had a chance to see this one. will have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteand i love andromeda for a name...
happy b day!
BSG is probably among my top ten favorite shows of all time - along with Lost and...hmm, have to think :)
DeleteNo, Babylon 5 is! LOL!! Kidding!! :-) Take care
ReplyDeletex
I have got to watch that show.
DeleteI've never watched this. Thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteIf you like scifi, this is must watch.
Deletemy son used to watch this all the time!!
ReplyDeleteI watched the whole series - didn't miss a single episode :)
DeleteI tried watching it, but it wasn't for me, I'm a STAR TREK fan, but I did appreciate Jamie Bamber for obvious reasons..... /blush/
ReplyDeleteheheh, doesn't surprise me you'd like him, Dez :)
DeleteI liked Anders myself.
I couldn't bring myself to watch this reincarnation of BG. A female Starbuck was a bit too weird for me. I loved the original, campy though it might be compared to the newer shows.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the challenge.

I only watched the old show a few times so Starbuck as a woman worked for me - plus, the show was just so damn good!
DeleteI remember this show... Is this the new one or the remake? Anyway I will certainly check it out when I get a chance...
ReplyDeletenew - and well worth watching.
DeleteAwesome show! I should rewatch again.
ReplyDeleteI remember the original series from back in the '70's (?). I had a crush on all those guys. Haven't seen this version.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Hulu just had episodes of the original Star Trek available. I watched a handful of them and loved them.
I still love the original Star Trek and if I had the $ would like to own the whole collection - among other things!
DeleteLoved the really, Really, REALLY old version. Haven't seen the new one.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazingly good.
DeleteI love shows like this and I love how excited people get about them. It's catching!
ReplyDeleteI get excited when shows are really good like BSG - probably because so few are, imo.
DeleteBG definitely had the best special effects and some great character development! Great show!
ReplyDelete*sigh* I miss it.
Delete*blush* I've never watched either incarnations of the show, but now that I've got hulu and netflix I can fix that.
ReplyDeleteI was always a Star Trek girl though. ;)
Oh, I love Star Trek, too, and will defend it to my dying breath to anyone who has any snarky comments - but BSG was just pretty near perfect.
DeleteI loved BSG. It's my second favorite Sci-fi show (Firefly's #1), and it's all because of the characters.
ReplyDeleteFirefly was awesome. It bums me out it didn't last longer. That and the Dresden Files. How the hell is wrestling better than Dresden or Mal? Damn the scifi channel screws up sometimes!
DeleteIt was really frickin awesome. That's for sure. But I think it jumped the shark after season 2.
ReplyDeleteI still need to get out of my cave and actually watch this. It's just finding the time to do so...

I think you'd like it :)
DeleteLoved this show and the original series as well. My husband is not a big tv watcher, but he never missed Battlestar!
ReplyDeleteheheh, neither did I!
DeleteBattlestar was epic! I loved the mini-series best though.
ReplyDeleteI loved the whole thing as well as Caprica that followed but got cancelled :(
DeleteAt first I didn't want to watch the remake - they made Starbuck [who had been my favorite] a woman. But it soon sucked me in, and I'm glad. IMO, it had the best space battles ever done.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it helped I didn't watch the original but my brother did and he liked the updated version better.
DeleteIt could've used more Baltar. And cowbell.
ReplyDeleteI loved and hated Baltar. He was awesome.
DeleteI was a fan of the first television iteration, but never saw the one that ran on Sci-Fi. I do like tricia Helfer, seeing her in Burn Notice and some show with Dermott Mulroney I believe.
ReplyDeleteShe was good in Burn Notice. Didn't see her in the other show.
DeleteWhen I was a kid, I loved the old BG and had a serious crush on Richard Hatch!
ReplyDeleteHe was in the new show :)
DeleteSci-Fi is an acquired taste and I'm not a fan, though I really loved both Battlestar Gallactica and Star Wars.
ReplyDeleteI used to love fantasy best but now I like scifi just as much - maybe even a little bit more...
DeleteI love sci-fi, but I never got into BG. Loved all the forms of Star Trek and Firefly.
ReplyDeleteFirefly was awesome. Cripes, Mal was awesome!
DeleteStill haven't watched this show, but was a huge fan of the original :)
ReplyDeleteIf you liked the original you'd probably like the remake - my brother did :)
DeleteI never did watch this show. I guess it's cause I grew up with the original. I know lots of people do love it though. And...it has Michael Trucco!
ReplyDeleteI'm still fond of The X-Files and Firefly. I watch them all the time.
HMG
The X-files is another show I made sure I was home to watch.
DeleteOk...I have never watched this. I KNOW! But I've watched every single other show you mentioned.ha Must correct this oversight.
ReplyDeleteGet on it girl!
DeleteI saw some of the original but I'm intrigued enough with your post and all the comments here to queue it up and watch!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great show with a great cast.
DeleteMy hubby, the Trekkie, enjoyed this show. I never watched.
ReplyDeleteShannon at The Warrior Muse
I don't think liking scifi is a requirement to like the show. The characters were just so...flawed and human.
DeleteI love SF. This show's on my list of ones to get around to.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine you wouldn't like it.
DeleteI loved the mini series. But when it went into full series... I don't know. It was good. I liked it. (Loved how the series ended, but I know I'm in the minority there--I saw it coming.)
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm weird.
Interesting! I did not see it coming.
DeleteI've heard a lot of good things about this show, but have never actually seen it.
ReplyDeleteA-Z Challenge.
It's worth watching, imo.
DeleteI do kind of love all of the shows you've mentioned. I forgot how good The 4400 was. Now I need the seasons..ugh
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm sure I commented on this already but maybe it was someone else's blog about BSG. Oh well... Love this show! :)
ReplyDeleteI know I'm missing out but I honestly haven't watched it enough. My husband is a huge fan which is why I've caught episodes here and there. Damn. Need to get on that stat.
ReplyDeleteI loved Battlestar Galactica! Romance, action, sarcasm!! What's not to love?!?!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
