Pumpkinfest

As many of you know we have this silly celebration here called Pumpkinfest, in which giant pumpkins are grown, decorated, catapulted, and even raced in - on water no less. I didn't get any of those pics but I do have some pretty cool ones of the painted, carved, and otherwise decorated pumpkins. Here's one I particularly liked:

Have a stellar Wednesday  :)

  1. A silly event, but we get to enjoy your photos!
Very clever to use the pumpkin stem to create 3D birds.

    1. Everything rots eventually and pumpkins this big aren't any good for eating. But they are good for fun :)

    1. You should try to come down next year - I live within walking distance of the event and you would be welcome to come to my house and walk into town with with me :)

    1. They do that here, too. I have a pic of the biggest but I forget how much it weighed - over 1000lbs (not sure how that translates into metric but it's BIG!)

  6. That's so cool! Did they use the stem as a head for a bird? Very creative.

  7. That's a beautiful pumpkin. Then they chuck it? That seems a waste. A pumpkin boat race? That's awesome.

    1. They will stay on the street for a couple weeks then go back into the earth, so not really a waste as they can't be eaten - by us.

  8. Here, we have a pumpkin fest as well, but it includes dropping the heaviest pumpkin on a car, while eating kettle corn.

    1. The regatta is truly mad - grown men making boats of giant pumpkins and then actually getting in to toodle around!

    1. It's silly but it's a good way to get people out and it's good for business. We are, after all, just a small town, dependent mostly on tourism so some Autumn business is a good thing for everyone!

  15. I love the gourd birds :) Maybe it makes me silly, but this event doesn't seem silly to me. It sounds like something I would love!
