Reason number two can be found in this post 'The Value of Critiques' over at MJ's. I'll wait while you go read it...
See? Wasn't that a great post?
Finally, reason number three: because it's fun! Okay. Maybe not as fun for you, the writer, but great fun for me. I love reading first pages and finding ways that might make it better or even discovering that I like it pretty much as is. I love seeing what other people are writing, their style, the words they use. And I especially love the idea of giving back and helping others as I've been helped.
So what are you waiting for? You know you want some feedback on that first page, and Dianne and I are just dying to read, so check out my sidebar and the FAQs, and hit send...I'll be waiting :)
Oh, and here's one of my recent first impressions...
Nutschell and Alana had some great tips. I liked the TACT approach.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! Hope you get tons of 1st page submissions!
ReplyDeleteWhen I finish the rough draft of my WiP I am going to go back and work on the edits and submit (again). On the one hand, I feel like I submitted my very rough draft too early. On the other hand, the feedback I got from you and Dianne helped me to see where it needed work. I think that this is a wonderful thing that you both are doing!
ReplyDeleteI'll send you my first chapter this evening sometime. At work right now.
ReplyDeleteI love your pic. Beautiful colors but strange clouds, huh? You and Dianne are AWESOME for doing crits for authors! (I comment sometimes, but I'm afraid I'm overly critical...)
ReplyDeleteYou and Dianne do a fantastic job with your "first impression" critiques. Maybe I'll have something for you later this year.
ReplyDeleteWish I could write words as strong as that picture! Someday, maybe I'll dare submit...
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful photo! Saw the TACT post as well.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! You two have helped my so much in the past with my stories. And when my sequel is finished later, I'll be trying to get in for one of those spots!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo. I'm guessing that's a sunrise and not a sunset, unless it's a first impression of evening, of course.
ReplyDeleteA sunset? The colors remind me of the setting sun. A different feeling when the sun is rising. Critiques are helpful, yes indeedy. However, I just threw my words out in the blogoshere for the most part. Used what I learned from that when working on my stories. And I write a monthly column for my local newspaper. Editor helps with that. I've learned to use that when considering the words I've written.
