Flicker

As some of you know, my son likes birds, which means I like birds. Here's a few pics he took of a Northern Flicker, a member of the Woodpecker family, who came to visit -

He's a handsome fellow, isn't he?

Meanwhile, I'm in the land of revisions which first involves me reading through the entire manuscript with minimal editing (that's the hard part) as I make notes on what needs fixing. The second pass will address all those issues. Currently I have 27 (!!!) items I need to check off before this manuscript is fit go anywhere.

So. What are you doing? Seen any pretty birds lately?

Oh! And the winner of The Eighth Day is Liz! Congrats :)

  1. He does look a bit like a woodpecker.
Enjoy the edits. I'm in the final stretch of completing my manuscript.

    1. Oh! That's too bad. They're way more scared of you not that that helps much! I know spiders are scared of me but they still make me jump and give me the creeps!

    2. it's probably because I grew up on a farm (yep, I know, who would believe it with me being oh so glamorous and glitzy now LOL) and my granny had so many ugly semiplucked chicken running around her yard... they were just the ugliest creatures ever.... and ebil too.... did you know that when they see red colour they attack like bulls? They eat each other - when one of them gets a scratch and bleeds the others attack like vultures.... highly horrible.... That is why you Americans even invented pink glasses for chicken :) so that they could not be able to see red....

  3. The second to last photo made me really smile. I love that little face.

Land of revisions. I love that part.

We have birds out back but I don't know what they are and today, I'm doing chores and prepping for our one week staycation.

    Wooohoooo!

    1. I know. It's cool when you can catch a bird looking straight at you. Enjoy your mini staycation!

    2. Thanks. We had nine days. Two more left and then back to action on Monday. I loved being home. I know it's nice to travel but boy oh boy, do I love staycations.

How's it by you? Sunny and perfect here. Not too cold. Not to hot. Juuuuuuuuuussst right.

  4. He is handsome!

I was at the zoo, the other day and in the trees was this gorgeous orangy-red breasted bird. Not a robin. It had blue-black top feathers and the same color head. Simply gorgeous!

Have a nice weekend Marcy! Good luck with the edits!

    1. Hmm, I wonder what kind of bird he was? I'll have to describe him to my son, see if he knows. You have a nice weekend, too :)

  5. Love that red V on his head. My manuscript is off for a read...and I'm not doing well with ideas for a new one...so I'm puttering. Reading more blogs, writing a poem, wishing I had an all--consuming idea to distract me from what I fear will be tough comments from my reader,.and life, which is difficult right now.

    1. Try to look at the comments you'll get as ways to improve rather than criticisms - altho I know that's hard! I tend to go through the 5 stages of grief when I get a crit back, beginning with denial that anything is wrong at all with my perfect wip and ending with accepting that, okay, so maybe there are few things that I could fix...maybe.

Hope life gets better - I hear you on that score, too.

  6. We had a nice blue jay on our lawn the other day, but other than that it's a lot of sparrows and magpies lately. Good luck with the revisions!

  7. Congrats to Liz! You have ONLY 27 things? I have more disasters than that in each chapter. I think I've completely rewritten Ch1 eight times now. Good luck to us both. :)

    I love the bird's little red "V" - it's like Superman's red "S." Maybe the bird should be Velocity-bird!!

    1. I have 27 things now, and I'm on page 128 of 349 so...I suspect I'll have triple that by the time I'm done.

That red V is quite the eye-catcher :)

  8. We have a lot of color in our back acreage right now. Blue jays, cardinal, gold finches, robins, and our resident hawk makes an occasional appearance.

  9. I saw a great bird video. But no birds in person. Well, besides the usual seagulls and crows.

And I'm all agog. A book! I love books.

  10. Great pics! We see lots of great birds on our walks (I saw a hawk up close and personal as I was walking to the store the other day, didn't have my camera!) but it's hard to get a good picture of them. I think I just need a good camera really.

  13. Your son might end up being a National Georgraphic photographer someday. He takes some terrific shots.

I love the seagulls in your header, too. It almost looks like I can reach out and touch them... or at least hand them some food. Never mind; they have a way of TAKING food, don't they? (But I still love 'em.)
