As many of you know, every year at this time Damariscotta and Newcastle, aka the
Twin Villages, celebrate Pumpkinfest, which features massive pumpkins that local artists decorate, a prize for the biggest, a pumpkin catapult (hey, we know how to have fun here), and a pumpkin regatta (yep, guys - and gals - in pumpkin boats). It's a lot of fun but my favorite part is always the big pumpkins lining the streets all carved and painted. Here are a few that caught my eye...

oops. |

loved this one with the sea monster |
|
and this one with the purple flowers... |
|
yep, that's 1695lbs!!! |
The first and the last are priceless!
ReplyDeleteDig the new header, Marcy. Wonder if that's the dude who tried to play Mini-Alex's guitar last week?
Yeah, the artists are pretty creative. As for my Header friend, I took his pic a few years ago so who knows where he went after his photo session...

They're always so creative with the pumpkins. I wish my town had an event like this. That last one is great. :)
ReplyDeleteThe event has grown and brought tons of tourists in which is good for the area and fun for everyone. Sort of a last hurrah before winter comes and spoils everything.
DeleteI thought the sea monster was going to be my favorite until I got to the minion. I'm a sucker for those little guys. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to pic favorites; they're all pretty amazing.
DeleteThose pumpkins are great. When I was a reporter, I covered a "pumpkin chuckin'" with a catapult. It was almost fun. Or I pretended it was to make people happy.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Yup, they do that here, though I haven't seen it. I stick to the pretty pumpkins :)
DeleteForget about the pumpkins, you have my favorite insect as your blog picture. PRAYING MANTIS!
ReplyDeleteHa! Happy to please :)
DeleteThis is so fun. I hope I get there to see it one day.
ReplyDeleteIt happens every Columbus day weekend - you should come up!
DeleteLove all the pumpkins. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteAren't they awesome!
DeleteThose are great! When I saw the minion at the bottom I thought of L.Diane Wolf... does she follow this blog??? She would love it:)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I HAD to take a pic of the minion!
DeleteThose are great. I love the gourd lighthouse.
ReplyDeleteI know. Someone actually carved that. I'm always so impressed by the talent and imagination.
DeleteThe minion's cute, too.
DeleteI think I liked the white one from last year better :)
ReplyDeleteWe have pumpkins fairs here too in my Vojvodina, but in small towns and villages
Joe and the last one are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun.
