How I really feel about this winter

So. I wasn't going to post anything until Monday but then I heard something amusing (ha ha ha) on my way in to work this morning. It was a little before ten and the temperature at the bank said 8 degrees and the guy on the radio was talking about the big snow we're supposed to get this weekend (in addition to the big snows we've already gotten that have dumped three feet of snow on us already, mind you), and how after that it's supposed to turn bitter cold.

I almost laughed. It's frickin' 8 degrees out!!! Doesn't that qualify for bitter?!

Meanwhile, aside from the snow, my winter had been pretty shitty. My bathroom drain is frozen (I have skirting around my house rather than an actual basement), which means if I want to have a shower (and I do), I also get to bail the shower afterwards. Luckily the toilet is close by but I have to tell you, it's getting old. As is all the snow. And then to top it all off my driver's side window decided to come off its track - no doubt due to the BITTER COLD WE'RE HAVING - and settled into the all-the-way-down position. So tomorrow, in addition to my bail session, I get to drive to work with my window wide open, and somehow find time to get some plastic and gorilla tape before the snow hits tomorrow afternoon. Yay.


Oh, and did I mention it's really cold?


Sigh.

This is why I don't like winter.

On a happier note, I still love my job, I finished a book, and my main characters have finally made it somewhere safe. Now I get to make it unsafe ;)

      We hit Barnes today and it was flippin' cold out. The winds were nasty on the highway, too.

    How does one define bitter cold? It's 41 degrees at 10:15 p.m. Many of my neighbors have covered their plants with towels and blankets. I wish they'd do that for the homeless people.

    I'm glad I'm not skiing this weekend. At our mountain house, the high is supposed to be -3 on Sunday. Unfortunate for my brother, who always rents the house with friends over Presidents Weekend.

    Sorry about your drain and your car window. Neither of those things seem like fun winter activities!

    We have the bitter cold but not all your snow. Both would be such a drag.

    Hope you get your house and car issues resolved. They sound like big pains. Glad you still like your job. Hope I get one soon.

    I feel your pain. Really. Be safe this weekend and keep counting. Only 34 days until Spring! You know as well as I do that means nothing, but it's fun to pretend!

      I know you do, you're probably getting clobbered, too, and yes! 34 days til Spring! It doesn't matter that it'll still be grey and cold. At least it will be Spring, right?

    That drive to work with the window down would kill me in those temps. And then to suffer the indignity of your shower drain not working when you finally take a hot shower to recover…oh, this is gold. You must inflict this on some character in a story. :)

    Meanwhile, stay warm and think of spring.

      And I think of spring all the time, believe me. It can't get here fast enough.
