You did know I would end up here, right?
A Zombie is a corpse said to be revived by witchcraft, especially in certain African and Caribbean religions. The Magic Island, a sensationalized account of a narrator who encounters voodoo cults in Haiti and their resurrected thralls, introduced the concept of the voodoo zombie into western culture. Since then the zombie has evolved into a mindless flesh/brain eating re-animated corpse, popularized by movies like Dawn of the Dead, shows like The Walking Dead, games like Left for Dead, and books like How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse by Max Brooks.
Excerpt from Hogfather by Terry Pratchett
“All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need... fantasies to make life bearable."
REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.
"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—"
YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.
"So we can believe the big ones?"
YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.
"They're not the same at all!"
YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.
"Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what's the point—"
MY POINT EXACTLY.”

I've always dug zombie movies.
ReplyDeleteRemember the film The Serpent and the Rainbow? Now there was a freaky story about people coming back from the dead.
I do remember that movie and it WAS freaky.
DeleteCongratulations, Marcy. YIPPEE, you've completed the Challenge. Thanks so much for the wonderful daily posts. It's been a pleasure to visit.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy a good zombie show/movie. My favourite to date has to be Z Nation. I just love how the writer's develop the characters. Even the nastier ones are loveable :)
I think The Walking Dead might be my favorite, or 28 Days later.
DeleteI am not a zombie fan. They really creep me out. I've watched a few zombie movies, and The Walking Dead. I really loved Shaun of the Dead. That's the only one I've ever watched more than once.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on completing the challenge!
Shaun of the Dead was hilarious!
DeleteI liked Pride & Prejudice and Zombies. Enjoyed your theme and the excerpts were superb. Good job
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting!
DeleteI LOVE the Walking Dead!! And World War Z.
ReplyDeleteThe Walking Dead totally rocks. I'm a little bit in love with Glen tho I heard a horrible rumour about him (I'm waaay behind).
DeleteI'm totally in love with Daryl ;)
DeleteI did expect Zombies today. I've enjoyed all the 'conversations' at the end of your posts. They're so funny.
ReplyDeleteSusan Says
Terry Pratchett's books are amazing. He's one of my favorite authors and I LOVE the books of the Discworld series. They just get better and better.
DeleteA creepy fine way to end your series!
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy zombies. In fact, I turned an indoor fairy garden into one populated with characters from a toy zombie play set (!). ~grin~ My partner won't let me repopulate it with fairies, either. Good post. And congratulations on meeting the challenge!
ReplyDeleteA zombie garden. Ha! And thanks!
ReplyDeleteZombies still rule! Darla, gotta love a zombie themed garden!
ReplyDeleteI agree on both counts!
DeleteSome four years ago, a friend recommended The Walking Dead to me. When she said it was about zombies, I went, "Yuck." "No, no," she said. "It's different." She made a good case, so as a trial we watched the first season. Okay, the first episode of the first season. And oh, man, we were hooked. To this day, haha. So no, I'm not a fan of zombies as a genre, but I am, apparently, of them as a catastrophe :D Also, I do find fascinating the lore behind them, as in voodoo and witchcraft. I don't believe it, but... you know, in terms of storytelling... ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing the Challenge!
Guilie @ Life In Dogs
I adore The Walking Dead but I really need to catch up. I'm so afraid of spoilers!
DeleteLove zombies! No one would think so. But I so do. Especially in a humorous kind of way.
ReplyDeleteI do, too. Shaun of the Dead was pretty funny.
DeleteZombies, great way to end it.
ReplyDeleteThanks - I thought it was appropriate :)
DeleteI don't do zombies. Don't like them. I do, however, watch iZombie on the CW. If you have to get stuck as a zombie, you want to be a zombie like Liv. (Check it out if you haven't seen it.)
ReplyDeleteWill do! Thanks :)
