The Pawn Shop

As most of you know, but some may not, I work at a pawn/antique shop in Damariscotta, Maine and occasionally I like to share some of the cool stuff we have. Recently, we had an addition put on, and here are some pics from the new room...

Looking in...

Am extremely nice secretary with all kinds of cubby holes and shelves

A pair of gumball machines

I decorated this old farm table with fancy dishes and carnival glass

I know, can you believe it? An old street light.

A fainting couch

Vintage Toys (I love them)

Fishing Floats and a fun sign

More Toys (in the jewelry room)

Bottles and bells and porcelain figurines

And a very cool clock

We also have tons of artwork, tools, old car parts, signs, not to mention the best selection of movies in town, all alphabetically organized thanks to yours truly :)

If you ever get up this way, you should visit; it's definitely the coolest shop in town and the funnest place I've ever worked.

  1. I would definitely stop in.
Can't see an old gumball machine without thinking of Tom Servo from MST3K.

  4. Wonderful! I love the secretary, the fainting couch (lol), and the pendulum clock. There's nothing to compare to well-made wood furniture.

    1. And it's cheap cheap cheap right now. Antique furniture is dead right now, which is good if you're buying.

  5. I love browsing old antique shops, and used to collect handpainted ceramics and dishes. I collected containers of all kinds: tin boxes, small ceramic boxes-handpainted- Japanese and Bavarian, and beaded purses. That was BK (before kids). I think you work in a fun place, but I'd find it tempting to buy more. We have a few pieces of late 19th century furniture items and some from 1920s and 30s. I had to sell a carved bed and a bow-front oak dresser when we moved last year as they just wouldn't fit our new place - downsizing. I kept our best pieces though. Loved seeing the goods at 'your' shop!!

  9. On Friday my husband and I were wandering around a neighboring town, waiting for Gabbey's "flash mob" performance advertising the community theater production of Grease when we stumbled upon a store with 31 rooms of antiques and odd things. I don't know what the building used to be -- it was very strange -- but it is perfect for what it is now! 31 rooms of cool stuff to look at! We have to go back!

    1. There was a place like that in Cincinnati, a huge warehouse and all the aisles had street names. That place was awesome!

    3. If you ever make it to northwest Vermont, the Shelburne Museum has an amazing collection. The dollhouse at the American History Museum at the Smithsonian is also a must.

  12. Awesome. I had no idea. Now I want to come visit. I just found out my husband loves to hit pawn shops. My jaw hit the floor. Couldn't believe after 16 years of marriage I am JUST NOW learning he likes to shop. ;)
