I'm not dead yet

Well. A lot has happened since I last posted anything.

I missed IWSG thanks to the demise of my double-u key, which threw me for a loop for a while. I have since discovered that replacing the double-u with the q can help spell check and auto-correct. It’s a pain in the ass though and very time consuming but it works. Mostly. If this was a desk top I’d have already bought a new keyboard but replacing the keyboard on a laptop isn’t so easy, not to mention I’d be without! However, I’ve found a work around as far as writing goes. Gaming however, is a different story, especially for the games I play, all of which need the double-u key to move forward. Assigning a different key isn’t very practical, especially in combat situations, so I haven’t been playing 7 Days to Die (insert sad sigh), or anything except scrabble on FB, and way too much of that lately.

I’ve read a few more books, bringing my total to 9 plus the 2 I’m currently reading (The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith and A Trail Through Time by Jodi Taylor). I’ve watched Lock & Key (recommended), Riverdale (on season 3), Sabrina (didn’t like the first episode of season 3 but did like episode 2, convincing me to keep watching), and am still watching The Americans. Oh, and I’ve started The October Faction which I’m finding fun.

Of course, the biggest news is Covid-19. I’m not going to say much about our government’s response, except to say it was lacking and still is imo, and that I wish Trump would shut up and let the experts explain things so they don’t have to correct him later. I am going to comment on all the morons who are buying a lifetime supply of whatever they can. I have not been able to buy toilet paper because the shelves have been empty. Nor could I buy cat litter. Of any kind. Personally? I’d like to see all these hoarders put on an island with NO toilet paper! No. Not an island. Cuz then they’d have the ocean to wash their bums off. Seriously. WTF? These are the people that ruin it for everyone else and they are of every ilk, selfish little shitbags thinking only of themselves. In times of crisis some people rise to the occasion. Others turn into the assholes we love to hate on tv.

Thanks to the virus, I’ve been laid off as the shop has gone to appointments only. My sister is primarily working from home as a teacher remotely while our roommate is still going in to Lowe’s every day. I think the only ones happy about this are all the dogs who get to have their people home.

I will be participating in Jemi Fraser’s blog tour for her new book, Dancing with Dementia, so do come back for that on the 31st. I’ll try to participate in next month’s IWSG but boy, it takes a long time to write anything without that one key.

If there are any other authors needing some extra love (I feel horrible for anyone trying to release a new book right now), please contact me. I’m happy to host a guest post, promo, or whatever I can do to help.

Now. Tell me how things are in your neck of the woods. Got hoarders?

Stay well!

  1. Sorry to hear you got laid off. I hope you have quick and easy access to employment insurance benefits, or whatever it may be called in the USA. We have hoarders here too, but our grocery stores have FINALLY wised up and started putting purchase limits on hot items, like only 2 packages of toilet paper per customer.

    Stay well!

  2. Sorry about the layoff. Help is coming to everyone whenever the Dems can stop arguing over who gets it.
On a laptop, yes, it's not an easy thing to replace the keyboard. Glad you found a solution.

    1. thanks. I'm hoping that at some point my brother can take it apart and e can have a look. Possibly something is making the key stick. But I have a feeling it needs a new keyboard :(

  3. I am sorry that you got laidoff.
And yes, we have hoaders. Toilet paper, cat litter, some cat food, rice, pasta, tissues, froxen vegies, meat... and the list goes on. Some of the oxygen thieves have had to buy freezers to hold their loot.
And I find myself hoping there is a power cut.
Our government is concentrating on the economic fallout, rather than the health issues.
    Big, big sigh.

  4. Sorry about the lay-off. Our kids and their spouses are facing the same thing. Scary times.

It is totally puzzling as to why people the world over have been stripping the shelves of toilet paper. I haven't been to the grocery store since the hoarding stories began, but I'm planning to go this coming Thursday during the dedicated 7-8 AM slot for old farts. Hopefully, because it starts when the store first opens and entry is limited to us oldie-but-goodie folks, there won't be too many empty shelves. Maybe.

The only upside for us is there's a lot less traffic on the roads, so getting to and from the cancer center is a lot easier than it used to be.

    Hunker down, and take care!

    2. Better than being way past the "old" stage... :)

  5. So sorry you got laid off. We're in the same boat. No need for substitute teachers when the schools are closed. Sigh.

Although, this is a great time to release ebooks. We have so much more time to read...

Yes, we can't find toilet paper around here. And the lines at Costco are insane. But they have imposed limits on various items, so that helps.

I hope you get your w key fixed soon. Or, you could try writing a book without. There's that one that they wrote without an e, or so I hear...

  6. I'm so sorry you got laid off. I too, hope you are eligible for Unemployment benefits. Ugh! Hoarders are assholes! I still do not understand why they feel the need to buy each and every piece of toilet paper. I just don't. And I wholeheartedly agree with your assertion of the Trump administration's handling of this pandemic. Be well!

    1. Luckily I am, but it won't cover my expenses. Still something is better than nothing.

  7. I'm glad you're still alive. I worried there for a bit. :) But please don't despise POTUS. Yes there are some failings. Who would you prefer be in charge? I don't like to go into politics, but I'm so tired of the partisan BS. And our politicians (!) are coming together, so take heart.

Please turn off the main (lame) stream media. Instead check out YouTube commentators like Tim Pool:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKq8UYYQTYA

He, Sargon of Akkad, and Dilbert cartoon strip creator Scott Adams are self proclaimed liberals but with wise and open minds.

Otherwise, Bruno is flipping adorable and I wish you all the best.

    2. I won't go into all the reasons why I don't believe Trump is a good leader, but it has nothing to do with his politics. I just don't believe he has any morals or that he cares about anyone except himself, his family and his money, and not necessarily in that order. I do hope our two parties can come together and work out an agreement on how to help ALL of us, especially small businesses and those that have lost their jobs. Crossing my fingers for that and thank you for that link!

    4. I hope you're able to replace that key. Installment was easy in my case. Ordering the correct item is all important, as you know if you've checked out the website. Again, be well, my dear.

  9. Bummer about being laid off. This virus is doing a serious number on the economy and it doesn't look good. I agree with you about the need for experts (as those with medical degrees) need to be speaking to the nation and not our self-identified genius in the White House. Everyday, at noon, when he holds his press conference, the market appears to accelerate it's decline. We'll get through this, but things will look differently on the other side. Your brunch plate looks delicious!

  10. Things are not as bad here as I hear it is for other folks out there. Crapper paper is rationed as well as a few other items. The people in the stores, when I've gone have been few and everyone including the workers have been kind to each other. Aldi, is doing and AMAZING job keeping clean and stocked and so are the other stores in the area. I'm sorry that you're off work for now. I remember that love that job. As for the dogs, they be like, "best day ever!"

  11. I watched Lock & Key and really liked it too. Sorry about your layoff. I work at home so am still working but most people in Michigan are on lay off and home too. Hope you stay healthy and can go back to work once we get through this horrible virus.

    1. I'm looking forward to season 2! And I hope this passes soon because even tho I don't mind staying home (much) I'd rather be working and earning my full pay.

Pretty quiet here. Teaching from home is very weird.

    1. I can't say I completely hate it, though. To be honest, there's a lot I like about social distancing. I like working from home more than I thought I would. I like not having to drive anywhere.

Of course, my enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that I have no choice...

  13. Sorry you've been laid off, Marcy, but most of my friends are in the same position. Have one friend who's a doctor, so she's busy! And of course there's no toilet paper in any store in our area. Stupid hoarders! I agree that the orange one should shut up and let the experts talk. I love Dr. Fauci! Trump has no morals -- you're right about that. He only cares about himself. That's why he wants everyone to go back to work by Easter -- so he can brag that he got the economy going again. And so his hotels will reopen. Grrr! Don't even get me started...

    1. lol, I won't! Though I will say this would be a challenge for any president, especially one who doesn't read.

  14. It's a challenge, that is for sure. Our daughter has been (temporarily, we hope) laid off from her job at a Forbes 4-star hotel. I'm proud as punch to report she got an opportunity right away to work for Uhaul cleaning trucks and providing customer service, and she took it. You do what you have to. I'm blessed relieved to be able to work from home for many reasons which will appear in my IWSG post next week. The hoarders drive me nuts! Stay well, Marcy.
