the very latest

well, now that you've all heard about my latest dating scare*, I thought I'd fill you in on something far more interesting. That being my latest wip, whose first page you may remember from this post, in which Dianne and I shared our first pages with you. She has since moved on to something else (which I absolutely love, btw) while I am down to my last three chapters (have you noticed my word count rising every few days?). Yep, three more chapters and I am done - with the first draft.

After which I get to move on to draft #2, in which I will add sensory details, check for continuity, pacing, motivation, and a host of other things Dianne has suggested. Needless to say,  I've already purple penned myself.

At this point, I'll be looking for a couple of beta readers and once they've given me their opinion I'll go to draft #3, then back to my cp's for a final read through before beginning the query process - again.

At least that's the plan.

What's yours?

* I've decided that if he makes any further attempts to engage my attention I shall simply be honest and say, I'm so sorry, I'm writing a book and am much too busy to give you the attention you deserve (aka time of day).

  1. Awesome that you're almost done with your draft. I'm only on page 45. I so can't wait to get to the revising stage, which I'm much better at.

  2. You're almost done! Adding sensory details. I like that description. That's what I do as well.

  3. I clicked on the dating link and said, "Ouch!" I clicked on your first page link, reread it and remain impressed. I'm in a resting mode on one project, and am in the beginning stages of another I'm not sure is going anywhere. Have a good weekend!

  4. Congrats on your progress! I've started the edits to my one project. I'm waiting for the final beta reader to get back to me on my revision request novel (her comments are the ones I'm most nervous about). Then it's back to querying. *starts hyperventilating*

  5. Congrats on those last few chapters. Awesomely done! I was thinking about you last night. I was remembering when I read some of your fairy story way back. Hmmm... Not sure what that means. lol

  6. Hooorah for your writerly updates!

Love your very firm but gentle let down to this person - hopefully you won't have to use it but it's good you are prepared! Take care

  7. Moving right along it sounds like. It must feel good to be getting there.

  8. DON'T say THAT to the guy!! He sounds like one of those types who think writers make lots of money. You'll never get rid of him then!

I am currently a little bit stuck. I thought I knew what was going to happen in the next chapter, but now I realize it's too soon to do that.

Luckily, I'm taking a train to NYC with the family this afternoon. Sounds like a good brainstorming opportunity.

  10. Sounds like your moving right along! I'm still in the outline phase and fighting the urge to pull the meatloaf out of the oven before its fully cooked. Soon...I keep telling myself. Soon! :)

  11. Glad you're nearly done with your first draft. The End of my first draft for NEVERLOVE is staring me in the face so it and I have a long chat scheduled this weekend. Then it'll be time to set it aside for a little bit and start revisions on MINGLED while also doing some beta reading and critting for a couple of other authors. Busy, busy writierly times.

Loving it. But so sorry to hear about that wayward neighbor. Hopefully, some form of common sense will kick in on his part. Then again...it may not :-)

  12. Plan? I have to make a plan? I guess that's what I'm doing wrong.

  13. That's a great goal. Mine? I've written 3 novels in various stages of dress/undress. That was my learning of the craft by doing. Now I'm powering through novel no 1, doing a fairly cutting rewrite - all those pesky adjectives, adverbs etc. I feel like I'm reaching towards my goal. Meanwhile I'm churning out short stories and flash fiction to keep me sharp. D,
