I totally missed last month, what with traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday, and I apologize for that, but I have been reading! In fact I just finished my 47th book: The Forever War by Joe Haldeman
The Forever War is a science fiction classic that chronicles the life of
William Mandella. Due to the time distortion associated with deep space
travel, he is present during both the first and the last battle of a
thousand year old conflict with the alien Taurans. A masterpiece of not
just science fiction, The Forever War illustrates the futility of all
wars and their effect on the human soul.
I also recently read: The Sign of the Four by Arthur
Conan Doyle, Shadow and Bone by Lynn Bardugo, Cocaine Blues by Kerry
Greenwood, The Wee Free Men and A Hat Full of Sky both by Terry
Pratchett.
Next up is Greybeard, by Brian Aldiss. As for my new toy, I'm over 25K and averaging 5300 words a week. Right now I love my muse :)

I loved Shadow and Bone. Siege and Storm is great too. Awesome you're writing so much. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteThis one sounds interesting. I don't usually go in for war books, but the time warp dynamic adds an intellectual bonus...
ReplyDeleteAnd keep up with the writing!
I do love me a good sf book! I've even translated some of the Hugo winning ones.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, no need to apologize! Given the holidays, I fully expected November and December to be quieter months. Glad to see you've been busy reading!
ReplyDeleteI tried of sample of The Forever War but it didn't light my fire. Maybe I needed to read a little further.
ReplyDeleteShadow and Bone is another one in my thoughts. Just haven't got around to reading it yet :)
The Forever War sounds like a good read.
ReplyDeleteI finally got my new computer and got it squared away. Last night was the first night since Thanksgiving that I got to work on my draft.
Hugs and Chocolate,
Shelly
What an awesome weekly word count! I'm going to have to check out some of these books.
ReplyDelete47th book? Of the year?
ReplyDeleteWow, that's an awesome word count. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds like a great read.
Well done on your word count!
ReplyDeleteI think my fave thing about the Coffeehouse is finding lots of new books to read. And yet it should be a bad thing, since my TBR is already nearly 1000 books long!
I have been wanting to read The Forever War; I hope you decide to post a review at some point! Congrats on that awesome word count. It's a great feeling when the muse is on your side.
ReplyDeleteI have this book on my kindle but have not read it yet.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, you've read a lot of books recently! Hm, reading for fun... What is that like? I think you're doing awesome with your WIP! Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2014!
ReplyDeleteMy goal this year was to read 52 books in 52 weeks. In fact, I made it in 51 weeks and am reading 53 now. Oh, how important, delightful, wonderful, joyous reading is! Yay!
ReplyDeleteCan keep up with your word count but the reading leaves me standing! Well done! :-)
