Inspiration

This picture inspired me. Made me think about disasters, something my number one brother and I share a love for - on screen that is! And while the flooding wasn't quite so bad in my WIP, I have a few more disasters up my sleeve to torment my characters with. Like this:

My characters are about to leave this place in search of answers.

It's been slow going. I've been working on this since November and am just now closing in on 20K. But. I think my chapters are more coherent and that there will be less to revise later, less major stuff. We'll see...

So. What's inspiring you?

  1. That's a trippy image.
    Less major revision is good.

  2. It's always nice when you can avoid lots of major revisions. I'm not sure I'll be able to do that with my current WIP.

But I do love tormenting my characters. Happy Writing!

    2. or is that the sadist? I forget. Either way, unpleasantness is definitely in store for our characters.

  3. Oh, you still write way faster than me. And glad you think you'll need less revisions with this manuscript.

  4. I am currently inspired by my revision letter for the third book in my series, but there is going to have to be some re-writing in the climax and falling action, and I'm not quite ready for that yet. (Smaller things are, of course, easier!)

  6. Oh, I love the picture of the green house plant against the snow outside the window.

Inspiration. hmm. There have been some moments and happenings. Also pulling out something finished and not edited and reading it after a year away. Not a bad story and it begs to be better. :-)

  7. ABNA deadline. Erm... Seriously. I love cool stuff and it DOES inspire me, but I am editing and the only things that really inspires me to edit is a deadline... That underwater pic though, is very cool--Atlantis-y...

    1. I like editing I'm in Dianne's situation: with a pack of inspiring notes that make me say, yes! That would be perfect and I can't wait to write it in!

  8. I don't know how I would react to an evacuation message. Would it be with apprehension? Hmm. I guess I'm glad I haven't needed to.

  9. That flooding picture had me cocking my head to the side, but WOW! And I think you are right about having less to do when it comes to revising since you're getting in some good clean up as you go along.

    1. I'm hoping that since I'm not rushing as much and thinking (planning, dare I say plotting?) more about how it's all going to play out that it will reduce the big clean up to a small clean up.

  10. It would be scary to be evacuated. About the only thing that could cause me to be asked to leave would be a disaster at Three Mile Island. Which I guess could happen.

    1. I can think of lots of disasters that would cause an evacuation notice - all of them scary!

  11. Love your header. It is a wonderful reminder that the sweaty season we are currently enduring WILL end.
I am inspired and awed by all those with the energy, the inspiration and the commitment to write.
A big thank you to writers everywhere.

  12. Hey, I started in Nov and am only at 10k, so your progress sounds good to me! I love your header. I can't decide if that plant looks afraid or is thanking all that's holy that it's on the inside and not the outside! lol

  13. What a pretty header! Our freezing cold weather isn't nearly as lovely. It's more dreary. I helped at my son's preschool this morning, and there's a lot of inspiration there for marvelous characters! :)

  15. Happy New Year, Marcy. My goal is to have the first draft done by the end of January to a sequel which I've been working on all year. I think I only need 7k and then hopefully write those words--The End. 20k is a great start keep it up!!!

    2. I was inspired by the documentary, "When the levees broke" by Spike Lee. A disaster movie but not for thrills.

  16. Wishing you the best, Marcy. Writing is great fun, I think and if it takes a little longer, I dunno. Doesn't seem like a bad thing.

As for inspiration ... I'm one of those folks that honestly, wakes up ready to write food. Which sounds well, snotty, but it's not meant to.

  18. Way to torture your characters! It almost killed me putting mine through all the stuff I did in the last book, but they came through so much stronger for it. Poor characters.

  20. Sometimes I feel sorry for characters. They're minding their own business in our brains, then, wham, we start messing with them. Fun, though! Looking forward to reading how your characters get out of the mess you got them into!

  21. The sun made a guest appearance here today, and brought plenty of blue skies with it. After about a week of fog and dreary drizzle, that was pretty darned inspiring. Uplifting, anyway!

That's great news about your WIP. Good luck with it, and I hope you have a super weekend.

  23. When I'm in need of inspiration (like now) I read. I just finished two John Green novels. He's an amazing writer. Given me rather a lot to think about with regard to my own efforts.

  26. I like Elana's comment--if I get stumped about a character, I think of someone in real life for quirks or mannerisms or attitudes. :) Enjoy that character tormenting!! ;o)
