Housemates - Lydia

Among the ten living bodies currently residing in this house...

...is Lydia, a temporary roommate.

Sadly she's only here until August, after which her husband is coming up from N.C. and they are both moving into a house they just bought in Rockland. The good new is that Rockland is the next town over so she won't be lost to me.

I haven't known Lydia long, but I hope we'll stay friends. She's a good person. But the interesting thing about Lydia is that when it comes to movies, she has no clue. Zero. She is so unfamiliar with movies that the most common references go right over her head. She would have no idea what you meant if you said,"You're going to need a bigger boat," or "I'll be back," or "I forgot about the tiger in the bathroom." But. She does know what's meant by, "Have fun stormin' the castle," now since we made her watch The Princess Bride. Groundhog Day is next on the list of movies she absolutely has to watch.

What movies would you put on the short list as must see?

  1. I'd probably be somewhat like Lydia about movies. During the crazy years of being a mom, I didn't watch that many. That's about 18 years of movies I missed. Hope you two stay friends.

  2. Oh, I'm glad you made her watch The Princess Bride! One of my friends in Florida has no idea what that movie is, so I keep telling her that we have to have a movie night. Half my movie references come from that movie!

  3. Oh that's interesting, I believe some people are like that though. Sound of music, or Home Alone, would be a great choice, if she hasn't seen it already. Greetings!

    1. "you're going to need a bigger boat" is from Jaws
"I'll be back" is from Terminator
""I forgot about the tiger in the bathroom." (might not be a direct quote but close) is from The Hangover
and, "Have fun stormin' the castle" is from The Princess Bride.

The Hangover may not be a classic but it was pretty funny and there were some great lines.

    1. If you have no more clue than her, then you must watch The Princess Bride; it truly is a classic.

  7. 10 bodies...? Yikes.

The first movie that comes to mind is Star Wars. Obvs. But after that? ET? Raiders of the Lost Ark? Terminator? The Matrix? It's hard to narrow it down.

    2. Hmm. Below you mentioned that she likes history. One of the space programs might be fun: The Right Stuff, Apollo 13.

  9. The Count of Monte Cristo would be on my list. And the entire LoTR trilogy. But Princess Bride is the most important so at least she caught up on that.

    1. The third floor has an additional five rooms, all smallish with pitched roofs or dormers. My sister and I have been discussing what to ultimately do with the space...so many ideas.

  12. I love movies, but I'll have to look up "I forgot about the tiger in the bathroom". ~grin~ She should definitely see "Terminator" and "Terminator 2", "Dodgeball", "Young Frankenstein", "Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension", "City of Angels", "Clay Pigeons", "Fight Club", "The Cell". Heh... I could go on and on. I tried to be somewhat diverse. ~snicker~ Be well!

    1. The tiger in the bathroom quote is from The Hangover, which I resisted seeing but found hilarious when I finally did watch it.

    2. I may have to check it out. ~grin~ Oh, and my partner wanted me to add dark horror film "Angel Heart" to my list of suggestions. I saw the film before age nineteen and think it warped me. I finally thought to share it many years after marrying. ~evil laugh~ Glad I did. It's good.

  13. There are too many good movies for me to narrow it down to just one, but my kids are always spouting lines from Monty Python and Mel Brooks movies. (She simply MUST see the after-beans scene in "Blazing Saddles"...)

We were visiting friends in Tennessee this past week, and I was stunned to find out she has never seen "Lady and the Tramp"! Holy moly, right?

    1. omg I love Monty Python, esp. The Holy Grail and most of their sketches. I don't think I've seen the after-beans scene from Blazing Saddles. In fact, it's been so long since I've seen that movie I don't even remember it!
